Big Sale at Island City Mall Tagbilaran
« on: September 02, 2007, 11:57:56 AM »
By ARIEL E. FULLIDO

It’s a 3-day sale at the Island City Mall on September 14, 15 and 16, where up to 50% discounts will be given away on great selections at the Home & Fashion Department, including the tenant shops.

On September 15, Saturday, the mall is open until 12 midnight, featuring a concert at the Activity Center at 8 PM with Amber, the Fil-Am pop sensation who is behind the phenomenal dance hit, “Kembot,” and this year’s Best New Female Recording Artist in the recent 20th Awit Awards.

The child of an American father and a Filipina mother from Malolos, Bulacan, Amber Alejo Rowley was born in the US, relocated to the Philippines with her family at age five, then moved back to the US again for high school.

To pursue a singing career, Amber settled in LA and started as background vocals for  Hillary Duff. In 2004, she signed up with NBA’s Dale Davis’ W.A.R. Entertainment as one of the artists and had two singles included in the original soundtrack of the movie "Player’s Ball." Then, she found herself headed to Japan as the lead vocalist of a popular rock and hip-hop stage show "Enwhy" at the Universal Studios. After making waves in Japan, she decided to make a detour in Manila for a singing career.

Like other international recording artists with Filipino blood—Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas, Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, and Mutya Buena, formerly of the Sugarbabes—Amber is proud of her Filipino heritage. Her 12-track "Feel Good Music" album is a tribute to her Pilipino roots.

Aside from the carrier single “Manila”—which is already number one on various radio countdowns—the album also contains songs like “In This Place,” a fun, upbeat love song; “Jungle,” a reference to the fact that when most foreigners think of the Philippines, they think 'jungle', “So Beautiful,” a mid-tempo love song with an alternative pop vibe; “Ikaw Ang Buhay Ko,” originally written in English and translated by Edith Gallardo, “See You Soon,” an English love ballad; “Feel Good Music,” a song about people going through trials and finding an escape through their favorite song; “He's Not You,” a soulful R & B ballad about finding the perfect guy; “All For Nothing,” an intense, uptempo track about feeling under-appreciated in a relationship; “I Need,” a fun, pop-up uptempo song about seeing someone you like for the first time; “We Need Love,” an inspirational song which says that as long as we put love first, there's nothing we can't overcome; and “Daddy,” a song about forgiveness and appreciation for the number-one man in our lives.

But her biggest break came in the ASAP Ultimate Dance 4 (UD4) when she composed and performed the dance hit, “Kembot,” through the collaboration with American producer Marcus Davis.

Amber is now busy recording her full-length album in between television appearances and live performance. With her smoldering, sexy looks which resemble like pop stars Mandy Moore and Gwen Stefani, no wonder she could be another icon in Philippine movies.

Amber used to be a part of the once popular TV show "PenPen de Sarapen" when she was seven years old. Her sister, Misty Blue, was a member of Kuya Germs’ "That’s Entertainment" family while her two brothers were part of the Universal Black and White Dance group.
