AN AFTERNOON CONVERSATION WITH BOHOL ARTISTS
By Cooper Resabal
The afternoon at Balay Kabilin in Tagbilaran City on November 3, 2022 served as a space for sharing information and ideas around art-related activities or projects that the participants are involved with in a relaxed environment.
It was facilitated by independent curators Rhine Bernardino (Boholana based in London) and Giulia Casalini (Italian atist), in collaboration with local artists/curators/researchers.
The main local facilitators have been encouraged to invite art workers/researchers/activists who would be interested in taking part in the 3-hour afternoon conversation.
After sharing what each one does as an artist, it was explained that the session was part of a project that involves "mapping sessions" to "highlight art practices and activism that strengthen and deepen cultural identity across indigenous communities and communities at the margins."
After a merienda break of camote and puto-bingka, a participant showed the facilitators some steps of the Kuradang dance of Bohol which led some to join the vigorous dancing.
Then, it was group photo time in telenovela fashion: "Karon, Ugma Puhon."
