Aumentado turns over P2-M mechanical driers to Bayongan, Corazon, Benliw IAsBy JUNE S. BLANCO
FARMERS in barangays Bayongan and Corazon as well as in Benliw in Ubay town and their neighboring barangays will now have better recovery from their rice harvest – with added economic empowerment to boot.
This after Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado (Bohol, 2nd District) turned over a mechanical flatbed drier each worth an aggregate of P2 million to the irrigators associations (IAs) based in the three barangays.
Aumentado had tapped the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) funds of the Department of Labor and Employment for the drier.
For the release of the funds, the solon thanked President Rodrigo Duterte, Cabinet Secretary Leoncio "Tuloy" Evasco and DOLE Secretary Silvertre Bello III.
During the turnover rites in Bayongan yesterday to the Basacan Irrigators Association of of barangays Bayongan, San Vicente and Cambangay Norte, Aumentado said the farmers expressed elation for the post-harvest facility (PHF) as this will curb after-harvest palay wastage.
He said the weather is unpredictable. He observed that Bohol no longer has distinct wet or dry seasons. Unless immediately dried after harvest, the grains either turn black and soft – or sprout. In both cases, the grains will no longer be fit for human consumption. The situation is compounded should there be rain during harvest time.
The driers will be operated by the respective IAs at a cost lower than what the private sector charges. The service fees will be used to cover overhead cost as well as other projects the IAs may venture into in time.
