14 bidders inspect Panglao Airport site

Fourteen bidders of the Panglao Bohol International Airport arrived yesterday to inspect tjhe site of the prospoed airport.

Prov'l Administrator Handel Lagunay said the arrival is a prelude to the scheduled bidding of the multi-billion project which will be funded under the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

The site inspection gave the interested bidders an actual view of the area in Panglao where the airport will be constructed.

Of the 17 listed, four did not show up during the site inspection yesterday, Hanjin Heavy industries, China State Phil. Construction Corp., Ron Daniell Construction Corp. and Equi-Parco Construction Co.

The companies which sent their representatatives for the site inspection were C.M. Pancho Construction, Inc., JF Legaspi Construction, Vicente Lao Construction, BSP & Co., Inc., First United Contractors Cor., A.M.Oreta & Co., Inc./Aquino Construction Development Corp, RD Policarpio & Co.,Inc., Sunwest Construction & Dev't Corp., Sta Clara International Corp., OR Sarmiento Construction, DL Cervantes Construction & Towking Construction, Readycon Trading Construction Corp., Young Builders Corp/Geo-Transport & Construction, Inc. and Dimson Manila, Inc.
         
Gov Erico Aumentado, durng his New Year's day message said the project is "on track" to beat the election ban on awarding government projects and contracts.

He said the bids and awards committee of the MAIA has scheduled the opening of bids on January 25 at the MIAA in Manila.

The pre-bidding conference was held last Dec 14, 2009 where 14 foreign and domestic contractors participated in the bidding for Phase I , Package 1 of the airport project.

This will be the initial stage of cnstruction of a 2.5 kilometer runway worth P1.52 billion.

The civil works are expected to commence March when the campaign period for local candidates will start.

Phase I of the airport project covers cleaning and grubbing, excavation , construction of embankment and drainage system.

Facilities for engineering and employer, project vehicles, project equipment and survey equipment is also incluided.

The airport would cost P7.5 billion based on the latest estimates submitted to the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) by its lead implementors - the MIAA and the Department of Transportation and Communciation (DOTC).
