National Power Corporation president Cyril Del Callar recently assured the House Committee on Appropriations that they will soon take over the operation of power generation and supply in the small islands in the first district.
This was after the persistent follow-up by first district Representative Edgar Chatto and the resolution from BOHECO I supporting the move.
n an interview with the local media, Chatto explained that taking over by small power utility group (SPUG) will mean lower power costs in the island barangays which are now charged almost double the rate of mainland consumers.
He said SPUG is in charge of providing "mercy power services" to non-economically viable areas.
Among the barangays to benefit the SPUG take-over are Cabilao, Pamilacan, Balicasag, Mantatao, and the six island barangays in Tubigon.
