155th Foundation Day of Garcia-Hernandez, Bohol
« on: June 17, 2009, 06:03:28 PM »
By Sunday Post

Garcia-Hernandez, Bohol - This eastern town does not only have rich limestone deposits that would last for generations but also enjoys rich agricultural assets.

It showcased its harvest of fruits, vegetables and other crops during the 155th foundation day celebration on May 27, 2009.

Officials here led by Mayor Myrna Naldoza Schreurs consider themselves proud of the harvests and of the farmer's labor after Vice-Gov. Julius Herrera distributed free vegetable seeds here months back.

Farmer Ireneo Cadenas of barangay Catmon here put on show his harvests, ampalaya and beans (sitao) from the seed subsidy, in a booth lined up at the fair site, just beside the centuries-old church. Cadenas showed to Herrera his harvests for sale with the presence of barangay and municipal officials, including Vice-Mayor Miguelito Galindez and municipal councilors minutes after the fair opening rites.

Herrera, who ceremoniously presided over the agri-fair ribbon-cutting ceremonies, expressed elation and commended the towns' effort through Schreurs in making agriculture a priority. He told the audience to emulate Cadenas for his feat.

He said he would continue to provide vegetable and coconut seeds just to prove his commitment to improving farming for food security.

He said nurturing agriculture is the best venture the people can do in these trying times, saying, "no one is a loser if he invests in agriculture."

On the same development, Herrera also expressed appreciation to barangay officials led by punong barangay Rufina Frajelle of Sta. Cruz, Dagohoy town.

Barangayfolk celebrated the 51st foundation anniversary of their barangay on May 28, 2009 with elaborate farm produce showcase.

The vice-governor commended the leadership of Sta. Cruz for the efforts in agricultural development and ensuring food security when several booths exhibited their harvests.

Herrera was represented by Atty. Lahar Ayuban, chief of office at vice-governor's office, during Sta. Cruz foundation day celebration. Board Members Ma. Fe Camacho-Lejos and Amalia R. Tirol also attended the said event and did not leave without buying the affordable vegetables and crops.

The vice-governor said that such undertakings (agri-fairs) are proof of Boholanos diligence to farming. It is encouraging and it shows the people are starting to respond to his call for green revolution in the barangay level, he said.

Frajelle was assisted by barangay councilors Arnold Jeminos and Nilo Jeminos, municipal agricultural officer Peter Calamba and Dr. Hermogenes Ricafort. (RVO)
Team Inabanga is tennis champ

TEAM Inabanga brought home the biggest haul after four days of court hostilities last week in the Sports World Age Group Tennis Tournament at the Green Clay Tennis Court of the Panglao Island Nature Resort in Dauis town.

The Inabangnon boys and girls in the 18-under, 16-under, 14-under and 12-under categories lorded it over their counterparts in the event sponsored by Prince in coordination with Bohol Quality Mall.

Of the six out of seven categories that Inabanga fielded entries, four romped away as champions. A fifth settled for runner-up.

They are Geneveve Petecio, 18-under; Ma.Goldie Uy, 16-under, Denice Kaye Jumamoy Alota, 12-under and Christian Dave Melencion, 16-under.

Brent Jumamoy was runner-up in the 12-under, boys.

Earlier, Joanne Ashley Jumamoy, 12-under; Dave Keith Alota, 14-under and Bryle Jumamoy, 12-under made it to the semi-finals list while Mark Gil Niño and Rico Boy Regis in the 16-under category managed the quarter finals only.

Sports is a major thrust of the local government unit (LGU) of Inabanga under Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy.

He said Inabanga has proven its supremacy not just in basketball but also in tennis after these racket wielders dominated the court.

The feat is an affirmation of the saying that you reap what you sow.

Municipio Inabanga had constructed the Francisco Dagohoy Tennis Court in Barangay Poblacion and assisted the Francisco Dagohoy Tennis Club as part of its Sports Development Program, and listed the young tennisters as associate members. Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member Rodrigo Jumamoy is the club president.

"Potential talents have been discovered, skills have been developed and the atmosphere of tennis excellence has been built in a strong foundation," the mayor said.

He also urged the youngsters to join the club to foster camaraderie in a group with the same interests.

To sustain interest in the activity and to hone the players' skills, tournaments, tennis clinics and trainings that provide quality coaching to junior and senior players are conducted on a regular basis.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
