Gary Valenciano deliberately avoids promoting his tribute CD "GV25" wherein Mr. Pure Energy’s best songs were done by other artists.
"It feel awkward to promote a tribute album or any kind of tribute about myself, promoted by myself. I can’t say, ‘Hey guys, buy this tribute CD to me.’ It’s awkward eh," he said at the press conference for his upcoming 25th anniversary "Live at 25" happening at the Araneta Coliseum on Nov. 14 and 15.
But this is not to say that Gary did not like the work the artists have done for the CD. On the contrary, he could not stop himself from raving about his favorite renditions of his songs by his colleagues.
"I know for a fact that the artists did the songs that they actually want to do. I like Erik Santos’ ‘Gaya Ng Dati’ and not many people know that at the time na nag-record siya, he wasn’t feeling well so he had to be very careful. I think Martin Nievera’s ‘Narito’ is one of the standouts because pinilit talaga siya ng producers to sing the notes he used to sing eh abot na abot. He had no problem singing it."
Gary continued, "But just like ice cream, meron akong flavor of the month. Actually weekly nga eh nag-iiba. I like Randy Santiago’s ‘Eto Na Naman’ also; then there’s Aiza Seguerra’s ‘Fool Til The End,’ I think she did an awesome job on that; and lastly Rachelle Anne’s ‘Paano.’ I think it was very well-rendered by an artist like her. But these are for now, pag tinaning niyo ko next week, iba na ito."
