It’s Vicky Morales’ turn to make a wish: That viewers will learn from the stories she does for television—especially on her newest assignment, the QTV magazine show “True Stories,†which airs Sundays (9:30 to 10 p.m.)
The host of GMA 7’s “Wish Ko Lang†and anchor of the late-night newscast “Saksi†is invigorated by her new show’s format. “The stories are very interesting,†she said.
One stand-out tale is of how a lotto winner finished his P80-million jackpot. “He gave half to his parents, who went door-to-door giving P500 each to total strangers,†Vicky related. “He placed P100,000 bets on cockfights. He now lives in a beautiful house, but can’t pay his electric bills, so the power was cut off.â€
This underlines the universal, but widely ignored values of prudence and saving for a rainy day, she said.
Dream come true
As a student in Ateneo, Vicky recalled, she cooked up a magazine show for a final paper on radio and TV production: “The program was called ‘Mga Kuwentong Buhay (Life Stories).’ It’s a lot like my new show.â€
Being a mom to 2-year-old twins Pipo and Leon has changed Vicky’s attitude as a broadcast journalist.
A story she did on child prostitutes who sold their bodies for a kilo of rice affected her profoundly. “You want to save those kids from harm,†she said. “Motherhood broadens your perspective and understanding of issues.â€
