I have known the used-to-be naive and shy Richell Pacaldo Angalot (aka Rich Asuncion) since her high school days at Tagbilaran City Science High School. Her baptism of fire in beauty pageants was during the Miss Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) held in February 2004 Danao City, Cebu composed of candidates from Bohol, Cebu, Oriental Negros and Siquijor. Rich, the neophyte, was declared a runner-up. Days before that, she went to our house on February 24, 2004 (my 34th birthday) with handler Rany Gespert, to practise her walking. More than a year after, in April 2005, she was crowned as one of Tagbilaran's Five Prettiest. In January 2007, she made her debut on national television via her participation in GMA's Starstruck talent search...
As a true-blooded Tagbilaranon/Boholana, I am very proud that Rich is on her way to put the Province of Bohol and the City of Tagbilaran in the country's beauty pageant history after our very own Anna Maris Arcay Igpit of Panglao brought home the honor as Binibining Pilipinas - World 2006. Of late, Maris is helping train Rich.

• The final screening for Bb. Pilipinas 2009 search was held February 2 at Gateway, the Mandarin Suites.
• From the original 170 plus applicants, only 36 were asked to return for final judging. The 6 gruelling hours were filled with pressure and tension among the hopefuls, parents, as well as supporters.
• Among those who were asked for final callback were April Love Jordan, Jaysel Arrozal, Mary Ann Umali, Bianca Manalo, Carieshiela Kaujpers, Cheryl Oliveros, Kimberly Bramdon, Abby Cruz, Zephora Mayon, Bianca Paz, Diana Arevalo, Barbara Salvador, Keanne Mallari, Loraine de Guzman, Rich Asuncion, Sthepanie Sineres, Priscilla Mae Honorio, Melody Gersbach, Giselle Rivamonte, Sandra Siefert, Fianca Cruz, Shayne Dimaapi etc…..

• 24 Bb. Pilipinas ‘09 Candidates Announced
• The annual Binibining Pilipinas Beauty Pageant is a continuing project of Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Incorporated (BPCI), a non-stock, non-profit organization founded by its chair, Stella Márquez de Araneta. The pageant was envisioned as a prestigious fund-raising activity for projects that would benefit orphans, indigent families and other less fortunate members of Philippine society.
• Binibining Pilipinas 2009 Beauty Pageant kicks off with the announcement of their twenty four official candidates to selected members of the press and media at the Gateway Cinema in Araneta Center Quezon City.
