Just how close did a Brazlilian bombshell threaten the six-year marriage of Cesar Montano and Sunshine Cruz-Montano?

After husband and wife gave their own statements to the media, nothing else was heard about the issue. Cesar had issued a firm denial against the rumor, while his wife in a separate statement hinted that something was wrong in the marriage but had nothing to do with either Brazilians or bombshells.

Amidst the deafening silence that followed the rumors, abs-cbnNEWS.com received information from a rarely heard voice: that of Angela, Cesar's daughter from a previous marraige.

Angela, who manages Cesar's Italian-themed bar Bellisimo Ristorante in Timog, deserves our gratitude for her patience regarding this writer's nosiness: despite her busy schedule with accounting duties in the restaurant and what not, she was still able to squeeze in bits of conversation.

This writer had wanted to speak to Cesar and Sunshine but since they were unavailable, stopping by Bellisimo seemed a good idea in case Angela was willing to talk.

"Ang mas mabuti po sa ganyang mga controversy, no comment na lang ang isagot ko. Kasi po, mas hahaba pa ang usapan. So, no comment po talaga ako riyan," she said.

('No comment' is the best answer to controversies like that because I wouldn't want to drag the issue longer than it already has. Sorry 'no comment'.)

After seeing how busy Angerla really was as she closely monitored the bills and payments coming her way, and writing down in a columnar sheet the figures attached to the receipts, we asked her if she had any idea whether Sunshine was at the Montanos residence in nearby Scout Rallos.

"Hindi ko po alam. Busy po ako rito sa restaurant kaya hindi ko po na-monitor si Ate Sunshine do'n," Angela replied.

(I don't know. I'm too busy here in the restaurant so I couldn't monitor whether Ate Sunshine is there. Editor: "Ate", pronounced "ah-te" is a Filipino term of respect meaning, "elder sister".)

When work wasn't so hectic anymore, we found out that Angela was quite willing to talk even just a bit about her family.

"Yan naman pong ganyang mga balita ay hindi na bago. Lagi naman po 'yang nangyayari kay Daddy at kay Ate Sunshine kaya wala nang nagtataka sa amin sa ganyan," she later said.

(Those kinds of rumors aren't new anymore. That's a recurrent thing between my Dad and Ate Sunshine so no one in our family is surprised anymore.)

So how was their New Year celebration considering the timing of the rumors?

"As usual po, the entire family went to their house. Kami po, nakipag-New Year's eve sa kanila ni Ate Sunshine. Sama-sama po kaming sumalubong sa New Year. Para namang walang nangyari kina Daddy at kay Ate Sunshine. Ang saya-saya namin."

(We spent our New Year's eve with Dad and Ate Sunshine. We welcomed the New Year together. We didn't notice anything wrong between Dad and Ate Sunshine. We enjoyed ourselves very much.)

This writer also learned from Angela that before Cesar flew off to Macau, China for the shoot of ABS-CBN's newest action drama series "Palos" with co-star Jake Cuenca, he patched things up with Sunshine--whatever it really was that caused a rift between them.

"Ganyan naman po talaga sa mag-asawa. Hindi talaga mawawala ang mga samaan ng loob at konting di-pagkakaunawaan (That's normal to married couples. Misunderstandings and petty quarrels are part of life.)," she said.
