For a big province (10th largest island in the Philippines), 9 contingents/participants in street dancing ay napakaliit (though we don't expect to be as huge like Sinulog in Cebu).

The thing is, people were not as participative and enthusiastic because on the impression about the people organizing the TBTK ( parang elitist kasi - please refer 2006 happenings ) This impression still prevail as reflected with what transpired (commotion) in the past 3 years - previous celebration.

Ang gitaan ug attention dili ang kalihokan as participated sa mga tawo but personalities from the USA, so unsa gud intawon bation sa mga taga atoa, din moingon nalang, sila sila na lang. ( am I right?)

an elitist atmosphere in such activity will surely discourage "ordinary" people to participate.

but let's face it, Sandugo hasn't really gotten a lot of interest for big companies to sponsor. In Cebu, Sponsorships have given Sinulog the fame it has now enjoyed. again, their prices are huge.

Inimbento ra man gud nang Sandugo as a festival. Mao nga walay kadasig ang mga prospective participants. Unsa man kon modaug ang usa ka lungsod? Mahimo ba siya nga mas inila kay sa uban nga wala moapil o modaug? Dugokon ba siya sa mga turista, ug daghan ba sa iyang mga molupyo ang mabulahan? Daghan na nga mga lungsod ang nakadaug sa Sandugo, pero nagpabilin pa gihapon nga ang Loboc, Loon ug Dimiao (and lately Alicia solely for their Musika Kawayan) ang the three most culturally active, even without funded projects on heritage, culture and the arts. This is according to the Center for Culture and Arts Development (CCAD). In recent years, Baclayon, Dauis and Maribojoc have joined the circle mainly because they have funding support from outside sources.

Ako lang ni nga view:

Walay mga innovative activities, balik-balik lang like street dancing, beauty contest, perya ...etc. Ikaduha, ang atong mga kalsada is too narrow para sa big time nga street dancing. Limited and height sa floats kay mo sangit sa wire sa koryente. So, lets face our limitations.

Mas maayo siguro kung mag open sila ug public forum or sort of brainstorming para makuha ang suggestions/ideas sa Boholano public para ma incorporate sa ilang pag plano sa activities.

Ang environment sa Bohol suitable kaayo para mo host ug mga Corporate sponsored Outdoor sports competition nga puede i-televise nationwide like:
1. Ironman Triathlon competition

4. Sky diving

Very nice performance. The choreography is very common though. You will see a lot of that kind sa Sinulog. I've been a Sinulog watcher at the Abellana grandstand every year for more that ten years now. And I see no difference in the choreography. Mao ni siya ang effect sa pag "import" og mga choreographers. Generic na ang mga dance steps. I am sure naa pa man tingali tay mga indigenous dance steps that our talented choreographers can use or improve on. As I see it, that performance by the Maribojoc contingent will, nonetheless, be noticed at Sinulog if they decide to participate come January.

The first and the last time that I danced "Kuradang"upon request from the whole Fam. during my vacation in the year 2000 (9th year death anniversary sa ahong Papa) with my uncle (he died 2005, sakto pod sa ahong adlaw nga pag-abot nga ning bakasyon mi maoy iyang pagkamatay , (his burial the day after that was his heartfelt request, nga attend gjod ko). The rest of old relatives "gakanta ug Dandansoy dalang pakpak while we did the show. It was funny at all.

Sandugo Festival has nothing to do with TBTK nor TBTK has to do with Sandugo. It's all wrong perception. Makalibog jud hinoon kay nakig-uban ang TBTK sa Sandugo, coz it's a very opportune occasion para pod makakita sila sa festivities samtang nag bakasyon sa Bohol. In fact, a lot of bakasyonista wa jud motambong anang mga aktibidad nga gipang mention... but when I was there, daghan jud storya, nga di ikatinga basta naa kas lugar na gamatit. Naa gani deri hahaha!

BTW, nakadungog ko nga ila ibalhin ang TBTK sa bulan sa Mayo or June aron di pasanginlan sa mga commotion hehehe

My little take on Sandugo Festival: kung ma sustain nila ni for many years, let's say 200 years from now, ila na kana tawgon ug TRADITION (sama sa New Orelans Mardi Gras which started around 1872). Like everythign else, ginama ra jod hinoon nag tawo, to commemorate something associated with a place. Deri sa akong nahimutangan we have hundreds of festival and fairs, halos kada parokya (simbahan), lungsod or syudad... all about fundraising. Secondly, tungod kay na establisado na (calendared na sa state), nahimo sad ning mga events nga pwede bisitahog mga turista if they happen to be around during those schedules festivities. Pero, people here don't make a big deal out of them. Kung ganahan sila motambong, motambong sila (Americans love the outdoors and they love to get out maski lami na silag pagkaon sa ilang bay haha). Locals love to spend (concessions at football, NBA, baseball, etc). Kung di pod ganahan, they stay home doing BBQ or what-have-you. Festivities are not supposed to be competitive; iyahay lang god paningkamot nga makapundo sila for whatever purpose why they have their festivals.

Nan karon, kay ang Sandugo sa Bohol man ug pobre pod ta nga pagka lugar... maajo na lang naka huna2x silag aktibidades sama sa ilang gipangbuhat karon. Maski ubang lungsod are coming up with their little gimmicks (EAT DANAO, Katigbawan, etc) and not to mention our yearly fiestas (nga maoy gitawag natog TRADISYON). May be one mas establisado ni sila tanan, or maybe dili. But for all I know (ako ra pod ni noh) naningskakay tawon pod ang atong mga kadagkuan/organizers nga mailhan ug nga tambungan sa daghang mga tawo. But of course, (Pinas style) we have to pay people (school and towns) para mo actively participate hehehe, kay tungod lagi puros ta mga pobre. Napugos nga mohatag ug incentive, otherwise di jud ma successful (same thing with election, kwartahay bah. Anything new?). While here in New Orleans, for example, the Krewes, nga moapil sa kasadya maoy mobayad ug FEE aron makaapil sa maong kalihokan (I know a lot of friends nga gusto mosakay sa Mardi Gras float, they pay around $1,000 per head para lang makaapil ug sakay, huh!) Hmmm... mao nay kalainan. But I can live with the kalainan kay unsaon man mao manay ato and that's our current economic situation. But I doubt if it attracts more tourists or not. Kadto ra sigurong naka timing nga naa sa Bohol anang panahona ang nakasud-ong. Taasa na oy, undang nako.
