Legendary rock guitarist Eric Clapton has announced that he will release a new record, already his 19th solo studio album, entitled “Clapton,†on Sept. 28 under the Reprise Records music label.
The 14-track CD will be co-produced by long-time collaborator Doyle Bramhall II and will feature guest appearances by singer-keyboardist Steve Winwood, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, singer Sheryl Crow, pianist composer Allen Toussaint and slide guitar master Derek Trucks.
Clapton remarked that the new album turned into an entirely different project than he had originally intended and that “it’s actually better than it was meant to be because, in a way, I just let it happen.†He also added that the album “(is) an eclectic collection of songs that weren’t really on the map (but) I like it so much because if it’s a surprise to the fans, that’s only because it’s a surprise to me as well.â€
