MANILA, Philippines — Melissa Mendez admits to selling barbeque, siopao, siomai and imported perfumes but denies that she does so having sunk into poverty.

This she said after blind items circulated about a character actress who had allegedly resorted to selling siopao and barbeque because she’s already “outdated.”

Melissa, who appears in the Cinema One Originals 2010 finalist “Third World Happy,” told Journal Online that there’s nothing wrong with selling things. She refuted the poverty rumor by saying that she has three houses and cars to her name. She also boasted that her business has a lot of patrons and that she’s earning almost as much as what she gets as an actress.

The actress revealed that she started this business during the times when she did not have projects.

However, not all actors are as lucky as Melissa.

After overcoming drug addiction, sexy comedienne and dancer Janice Jurado recently appeared in a taped interview with Korina Sanchez on “TV Patrol” aired last Nov. 8 to tell about her life now and yet another battle with a serious disease.

She admitted that nowadays, she sells barbeque for a living and that she is scheduled to undergo another operation on December for breast cancer.

Janice was highly emotional when she addressed her children, all of whom, it seems, have already turned their backs on her.

“Sana naman bago ako mawala sa mundo… papasok na naman ako sa isang operasyon. Pakinggan naman nila ko,” she pleaded.

“Bigyan niyo naman ako ng pagkakataong bumangon. Bigyan naman niyo ko ng pagkakataon na ipakita naman sa inyo kung papano ulit magagawa ni Janice Jurado ang bumangon. Huwag naman niyo akong ikondena.”

Another actor, Joseph Bitangcol, has also resorted to selling barbeque in order to support his family. It was in early October when the young actor appeared on “Paparazzi” to tell about his life outside the limelight.

His showbiz career had gone lackluster after starring in the movies “D’ Lucky Ones” and “Walang Kawala.” With fewer projects that came his way and with the onslaught of financial blows, he returned to selling barbeque which his mother Lydia revealed that he has been doing anyway as the family’s main source of income before entering show business.

Joseph, however, is happy and grateful that despite these setbacks, a few showbiz friends remained true to him. He also expressed his wish to find a new management that would help revive his showbiz career.

When it rains it pours. Acting career is seasonal, these people should not be blinded with temporary flows of money. They need to save for the rainy seasons.

At least BBQ gibaligya, dili lain... very easy to go that direction kay easy money and big money pod.

daku ang kita og mag-BBQ ka basta make sure lang nga lami imong timpla para magbalik-balik angh mupalit nmo... my cousin tried selling BBQ sauna and times 2 gyud ang kita but kapoy lang daw tuhog hehehe

Sa edad ni Mellesa ug sa iyang dagway sa karon basin ug ang ebayad sa iyang servicio pang load na lang.Maayo pa kanang iyang Bbq nga baligya desente pa.
