Ogie Diaz defends Star Magic amid Liza Soberano's claims of being controlled
Former talent manager Ogie Diaz has spoken up about his former ward Liza Soberano's recent statement that she felt like she was being controlled by the people around her during her early years in showbiz.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News on February 27, Diaz said that he and Star Magic, the talent agency that launched Soberano's career, only wanted what was best for the actress.
"If Liza Soberano says that she feels like she's being controlled by the people around her, if I were her and Star Magic, I would thank Liza because she followed us and that's why she became famous," Diaz said.
He added that Soberano should be grateful for the opportunities and guidance that Star Magic gave her when he was still managing her.
"Imagine if nothing happened to Liza's career when I handled her and Star Magic, maybe she would have achieved something different now. At least that's okay rather than ranting that nothing good happened to her career," he said.
Diaz also denied rumors that he had a huge percentage on Soberano's talent fee, saying that he only got 10% as a standard practice in the industry.
Soberano, who is now one of the most popular actresses in the country, recently opened up about feeling restricted by some people in showbiz who wanted to mold her into a certain image.
In an episode of Toni Gonzaga's online show "I Feel U" aired on February 21, Soberano said: "I felt like there were so many things na parang kino-control sa akin ng mga tao sa paligid ko. Parang they wanted me to be this person na hindi naman ako."

She also revealed that she turned down an offer to star in a Philippine remake of the hit Korean drama "It's Okay To Not Be Okay" with her boyfriend Enrique Gil because she wanted to do something different from their usual romantic-comedy projects.
Soberano is currently working on a new teleserye titled "Make It With You" with Gil under Dreamscape Entertainment.
