#GlitterChannel (Celebrity Life) ---- A REVELATION OF AGA MUHLACH TRUE FEELINGS HOW MUCH HE LOVED LEA SALONGA IN THE PAST
BY MARKIE ROBRIGADO
Each moviegoer was so in love after watching the movie hit "Sana Maulit Muli" in the 90's. The film starred by Aga Muhlach and Lea Salonga, and their characters as "Agnes" and "Jerry" were very unforgettable. They might have been together only through their team-up in two blockbuster movies, another movie was "Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal," but it looks like Lea Salonga really left a mark on Aga Muhlach’s heart.
Muhlach popularity came back at that time after the movie became a box office hit, it's like tickets are selling like hotcakes, even his "Bagets" movie was also a massive success where Muhlach starred. Muhlach and Salonga were crowned as Box Office King and Queen that year.
Aga Muhlach is every woman’s desire while Salonga was the world’s darling songstress as her beautiful voice is like the "Bird of Adarna," they were a perfect match in every way. Yet despite all the favorable reasons for a lovely union, it just never happened. Even so, she melted the debonair’s heart and made an imprint on him, enough to make him realize that she is “the one that got away. And she never knew.”
A big revelation happened in 2013 when Muhlach wrote those words in a letter that was included in the “Playlist Souvenir Book. A Celebration of Lea Salonga’s 35 years” published in 2013 for her 35th showbiz anniversary concert. Even today, the letter has been making rounds in social media, as netizens raved about the melt-your-heart words that the actor had for Salonga.
Muhlach confessed that, “She never knew how she saved me. It was 1992, and I was at the very bottom of the industry. I have nothing. I had nothing. I had no money. I had no career career, but with ‘Sana Maulit Muli’ I made my comeback.”
It was not until years after, through his letter, that the world knew how special Salonga really is to Muhlach. He looked up to her as a world-class talent. As Muhlach very poetically put it, “Her voice is clear as a bell and as breathtaking as the sunrise.”
He also saluted Salonga’s professionalism: “She is always on time.” Meanwhile, he was always the late one: “I will always be the late Aga Muhlach.
Yet the second part of his letter confessed his love for Salonga. He said he loved her just as he did all the characters she’s given life to in their movies.
She never knew how much I loved her. It was a lifetime ago, I was a young man on fire with passion, as all young men of a certain age are. I wooed fair ladies and dreamed of shaping the world. And, to me Lea was Sandy (Lea's character in Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal)—ethereal, aloof, unattainable; my very heart’s desire.”
“Lea was Agnes—vulnerable yet remote, kind yet callous, constantly engaged in a battle of wills. And I loved Andy and Agnes and Lea in equal measure.”
Realizing that indeed, she “is the one that got away,” she will always have that special place in his heart no matter the paths they’ve crossed and despite the years that passed.
“I love her still, but perhaps because she got away. I have her as a friend now, and so I will always have her. Anytime she needs me, I'm there for her, anytime I need her, she’s there.”
As he reached the end, he congratulated his “dear friend” for celebrating a career spanning over more than three decades: “You make our country proud. You make me proud.”
During the filmming of their movie "Sana Maulit Muli" Muhlach also revealed that he had intention to court Lea Salonga but he had no guts at that time for the reasons that Salonga was so popular as international theater star while he was just making a comeback with nothing. As Muhlach admitted in the middle of their filmming, he fell in love with Lea and every dialogue that he threw to Agnes (Lea's character in the movie), he felt that it was really him telling his affection to Salonga. He felt that he was so much in love with Lea, that he was so happy telling the girl that he loved about his real affection. For some reasons, Muhlach doesn't want to destroy the relationship he had with Lea. As per him, it is like your best friend that you fell in love with her but you can't admit your true feelings because it will destroy your good relationship with her as friends. Muhlach sincerely added that he always thought Lea night and day and wanted to be with Lea everyday but he was contented at that time being with Lea in the last part of their filming and all the promos of their movie. When Lea asked by one of the press about the real status between her and Aga, Salonga told the Press that, it made her day completed when she was with Muhlach but the guy will do the first move and the rest will follow. Muhlach and Salonga remained as true friends and kept their true feelings they had for each other even during their next movie "Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal," they never admitted that they had feelings but they knew they had special place in their heart and loved each other.
In Muhlach closing, he professed his love for her and congratulated them both in advance on a supposed third movie.
“All good things come in threes, di ba? Kaya… sana maulit muli.” (Right? That’s why I hope happens again.)
In the 1990s, Press released are everywhere that Muhlach had a much talked-about relationship with no less than Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres so Salonga didn't comment about it in all her interviews about her projects. There was also a press released that Aga doesn't like Lea and Muhlach chose Torres over her.
Oddly enough, the letter went viral recently as enamored netizens and fans kept reposting it nowadays.
