Even if Chris Brown and his attorney managed to postpone the arraignment for April 6 to answer to charges of felony assault and making criminal threats, they might have another thing coming at them. Rihanna will testify against Brown if she’s called as a witness in the case, her attorney, Donald Etra says, as quoted by NME.
Should the “Umbrella†star go through with this, her detailed account of what happened on February 8 could ruin any type of defense that Brown’s lawyer might come up with in the meantime, it has been said. Brown was extremely violent towards Rihanna, including even wanting to push her out of the car because she had made him angry, as a detective’s notes recently made public revealed. If she speaks in court, then a jury will certainly not look lightly upon the Brown case, it has been noted.
“She [Rihanna] is planning to do everything that the law requires her to do. If she is required to testify, she will do so. The fact is, Rihanna desires that it be quick and expeditious. She wants to get back to her life and her career.†Etra told the media just recently. If true, this would explain why Brown had sought a delay in the arraignment, as it would give him plenty of time to bargain a plea with the DA, as TMZ noted yesterday after the 4-minute-something court hearing.
According to the same source, the judge presiding the case has also issued a protective order for Rihanna against Brown, which grants her the right to record any conversation she may have with him until the court hearing. The question of whether she really needed it – given that speculation is running rampant that she married Brown secretly last weekend in Miami – is an entirely different matter, several media outlets are saying.
“TMZ has obtained a copy of the protective order against Chris Brown – in which a judge is allowing Rihanna to record any phone conversations she has with Chris. The order, filed yesterday in Los Angeles Superior Court, says Brown must not ‘harass, strike, threaten, assault, follow, stalk, molest, destroy or damage personal or real property, disturb the peace, keep under surveillance, or block movements of’ Rihanna. The order expires in March 2012.†TMZ writes.
