A Love Story is the title of a current movie now showing in movie theaters across the country. It is a Tagalog movie released through Star Cinema and directed by Mario J de los Reyes and it tells of the complexities of real-life relationships, in which everything is not black and white. It stars the wonderfully buff Aga Muhlach, young actress Angelica Panganiban, and the stellar Maricel Soriano. At the special belated birthday celebration for Aga after the movie’s premiere at Florabel’s (at the Podium), I asked the stars to share their favorite reading materials.
MARICEL SORIANO: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (and all the other Harry Potter books that came before this) by J.K. Rowling: “I love the Harry Potter books because the way the author wrote them makes you feel like you are part of the world she created. You get so involved in the characters. No one can disturb me when I am reading a Harry Potter book because I really get into it and I hate to be pulled out of it. I never start one of these books when I am on a movie project because I won’t be able to read it continuously.â€
Embraced by the Light by Betty J. Eadie and Curtis Taylor: “One of the writers, Betty Edie, actually died after surgery. During the time she was clinically dead, she talks about traveling… to where, through what — you must read it for yourself. It affected me deeply.â€
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden: “Her world is so different. Wonderfully written. Just loved this book.â€
ANGELICA PANGANIBAN: By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept by Paulo Coelho: “I like the way he handles the emotions of the character. You can feel the different characters. As an actress, as a person, one can relate to all of that.â€
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom: “The true story of the love between a spiritual mentor and his student, Morrie Schwartz — a one-of-a-kind professor whom the writer says is a cross between a prophet and an elf. We get to read about his last moments and the advice he shares with his student. I learned a lot.â€
A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks: “A love story between a happy-go-lucky teenager who is not ready to grow up and an unusually good girl who has no time to grow up. It will make you cry.â€
AGA MUHLACH: “I love to collect rare plants and birds and create beautiful homes so I love books about these such as, but not limited to, the following: 25 Tropical Houses in the Philippines by Elizabeth Reyes, Paulo Alcazaren and A. Chester Ong; Tropical Asian Style by Kim Inglis, Gianni Francione, Luca Invernizzi and Luca Invernizzi Tettoni; Tropical Plants for Home and Garden by William Warren and Luca Invernizzi Tettoni; The Large Macaws: Their Care, Breeding and Conservation by Joanne Abramson, Jorgen B. Thomsen, Marsha Mello and Brian L. Speer; Parrots of the World: An Identification Guide by Joseph M. Forshaw and Frank Knight.
