Popular actress and television host Kris Aquino has said she won’t meddle with the political duties of her elder brother, Senator Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III, and instead help out in something she knows well: fashion.
“Ako na lang ang in-charge sa kanyang senatorial wardrobe," said Kris in GMANews webcast interview when she arrived at the Philippine International Convention Center Wednesday evening for the proclamation of the first 10 of 12 winners in the May 14 senatorial elections.
Kris, accompanied by her husband, basketball player James Yap, said she would leave to her mother the task of watching over her brother’s performance at the Senate. “Mom ko na lang ‘yun," she said.
Kris, who was hounded by controversy while her brother was campaigning, said she was “very, very proud (of Noynoy) and looking forward sa lahat ng magagandang magagawa n’ya para sa bayan."
Former Philippine president Corazon Aquino, who came in her traditional yellow dress, said in a separate interview she was “sure he will do his very best, at ‘yun na nga ang gusto kong sabihin, kundi lagot siya sa nanay n’ya."
Mrs. Aquino said she personally went to the precincts and talked with officials to guard her son’s votes. Her daughters Pinky, Ballsy and Viel did their part campaigning for Noynoy in public markets.
Noynoy Aquino finished off 6th among 37 candidates in this year’s Senate race.
I’m very happy. Of course, it would not have been possible with the help of so many people…I am very grateful," Mrs. Aquino said.
Noynoy himself promised to attempt to follow the standards set by his father, martyred opposition leader Benigno Aquino Jr., as a respected senator.
Among his priority legislations, he said, include increasing salaries and wages, and providing for profit sharing mechanisms that would encourage productivity.
Asked if he would already be able to give her mother a daughter-in-law after having been elected to the Senate, the 47-year-old bachelor said it would be something to be prayed and work hard for. - GMANews.TV
