Milwaukee, May 6, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Sisters Grace Nixon Peterson and Leah Nixon Fitzgerald know a thing or two about dark and challenging times. In 2018, Leah found herself lying paralyzed in an ICU hospital bed after a life-altering work accident. While building houses for Habitat for Humanity, a telehandler fell on the 31-year-old. Pinned under the machine for over 30 minutes, the accident ultimately left Leah paralyzed from the chest down and with her right leg amputated.
While her body was crushed, her spirit was not. The artist threw herself into Tiny and Snail, the stationery company the sisters had launched only a year prior. “It was as if the universe told me in no uncertain terms: This is your purpose. You were born to create. It’s time to focus,” recounts Leah.
Propelled by the current isolation families and individuals might be feeling, the sisters recently released an innovative collection of greeting cards called Draw Together. They designed the collection in three days, a record for the duo who normally spend two to three months developing a new product line.
“Art and creativity were critical in getting us through the trauma of Leah’s accident,” says Grace. “During this time of fear and uncertainty, we wanted the collection to help people reach out to loved ones with a touch of their own magic. Each design in Draw Together provides a prompt — like an empty flower vase or an astronaut in space with an empty speech bubble. The black-and-white cards invite the sender to whip out their markers, paints, or crayons and add their own flair.”
The collection consists of ten unique designs and is available on www.tinyandsnail.com. Each card retails for $5.95 while the entire set is $45. Wholesale pricing is also available.
Tiny and Snail also offers a wide variety of other greeting cards, each featuring delightful, original art by the two sisters and printed in the USA. Grace lives in Milwaukee and Leah in the Black Hills of South Dakota. They work together daily during Zoom sessions — each one starting with a dance party.
“The cards we create are more than just a nice sentiment for someone to send,” says Grace. “Our goal is to create frame-worthy art. We want to help others spread sunshine and hope, particularly through this new collection.”
"At a time when schools are closed and kids and adults alike are feeling alone, we wanted to sprinkle in some snail mail magic,” adds Leah. "I know what it’s like to feel at the end of your rope and I also know how art and letters can help you hang on.”
