The Spanish Football Federation says a scan has confirmed that Liverpool striker
Fernando Torres has suffered a "grade one injury" to his groin.
A grade one tear is considered to be the least serious but the Reds medical team now plan to make their own assessment before issuing an update.
Torres, 26, suffered the injury in Spain's
World Cup final win on Sunday.
"It certainly looked like it might have been bad but it seems not too bad," said Liverpool doctor Peter Brukner.
"He walked up to get his medal without too many problems so we're optimistic."
Liverpool have given players who took part in the World Cup three weeks off from the time their country's participation in the competition ended and that means Torres is not due to return to Anfield until the start of August. - BBC
