June Mar Fajardo’s beginnings at the University of Cebu started in 2007 when he approached the school wanting to try-out for the team. Actually, UC was not his first choice. He wanted the University of Southern Philippines (USP). Fortunately for UC, USP does not offer a Nautical Course which Fajardo wanted to take at that time. With his 6-foot-5 height at the age of 17, UC grabbed him to join the varsity squad without any second thoughts.
For five years, he donned the blue-and-gold colors of the UC Webmasters. He and Greg Slaughter of the University of the Visayas (UV) were the “Twin Towers” of Cebu collegiate basketball.
Before suiting up for the Ateneo de Manila University, Slaughter wore the green and white for the UV Green Lancers from 2007 to 2009. He won the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men's basketball title each year in his three-year stint with UV, as well as the league MVP award in 2008 and 2009, the latter of which he shared with Fajardo.
He transferred to Ateneo in 2010 and became eligible to play for the Blue Eagles in 2011. In his two seasons for Ateneo, he teamed up with Kiefer Ravena and Nico Salva to lead the Blue Eagles to two UAAP championships and completing a five-peat.
Fajardo and Slaughter battled in the CESAFI between 2007 and 2009 and even met in the 2009 finals, which Slaughter and the UV Green Lancers won.
