Whoever coined the phrase “There is no place like home” was indeed spot on.
There is no place like home. And for me that means The Philippines
.
After a three-year hiatus, I have spent now 3 weeks rediscovering home. Reconnecting with family and supporters. Revisiting with institutions of my youth that helped shape me to be who I am today. It’s been wonderful.
One thing I discovered are new opportunities to work with amazing businesses and brands. Pursuing these opportunities is important to me. I have long advocated a great presence of private sector support for athletes. This has a dual-benefit. It not only brings more funding to needy athletes; but it also helps ease the burden on the Filipino taxpayer. I even wrote a column on this last year.

As my team is stretched, my existing agent and good friend and mentor, James Michael Lafferty and I, decided to bring in a new team member to help us manage. After a careful review of options, we chose Ms. Vania Padilla-Edralin of VMG Asia to join our team to help us manage my relationship with these brands in Philippines. Vania has a long and successful pedigree in the world of sports management and we are happy to have her be part of Team Obiena.
