Pregnancy is a wonderful time in your life.  It can also be very taxing and exhausting for your body, mind and spirit at times.  But by nourishing your body with these great superfoods, you’ll be energized, strong, and sharp, and ready to welcome your pending bundle of joy healthy and happy.

Beans and legumes are good sources of protein, fiber, calcium, iron, thiamine, and niacin. Make a big batch of beans when you have time and freeze them in small containers. Be careful with canned varieties, as they’re usually higher in sodium and their nutritional value is a bit lower since they’re processed using high temperatures. Soybeans provide more protein than any other bean or legume, making them a staple either the vegan or non-vegan. Soybeans are rich in many nutrients, including calcium and iron.

Include plenty of whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, millet, and oats as they’re a great source of fiber, minerals, protein and B complex vitamins.  Buy the least processed grain types you can find, since many of the commercially prepared grains have had the nutritional and beneficial germ and bran removed. 

Dark green leafy vegetables like kale, collard greens, watercress, and spinach are especially important while pregnant or lactating because they supply so many vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A and C, calcium, and iron. Dark leafy green vegetables also are rich in phytochemicals like beta carotene and lutein which protect against many forms of cancer. 

Vegetables from the cabbage family such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage are wonderful sources of vitamin A, vitamin C, and calcium. They are also rich in phytochemicals that have anticancer properties.  Dark green leafy vegetables and cabbage family vegetables provide important nutrients that help to promote a plentiful milk supply for your baby.

Nuts and seeds are good sources of fiber, protein, minerals, and essential fatty acids. Be sure to eat flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds and walnuts to get omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for baby’s brain and nervous system development as well as your own health. Nuts and seeds can be eaten raw or toasted, and work great in a salad made of dark leafy green vegetables.

Lastly, it’s important to drink plenty of water, and make sure you’re getting plenty of rest during this time.  A well-hydrated, well-rested body recovers more quickly, and ready to take on the challenges that life with a newborn baby brings with it. (Public Label Article)

Pregnancy is directly influenced by the motility of the germ cells (oocyte) and (spermatocyte) as well as the effectiveness of the enzyme Hyaluronidase, which plays a significant role on the spermatid's ability to break through the corona radiata region of the egg; and the ability of the enzyme acrosin, esterase and neurominidase to break down the oovum's zona pellucida region and allowing the spermatid's neurviscular region to enter the oocyte (ovum/egg etc).

When this happens, what we call a Zona reaction occurs; which manifests a chemical reaction that makes the egg impermeable to any other sperm besides the fertilizing spermatid.

When fertilization occurs, there is comletion of the 2nd meotic division; then the male pronucleus and female pronucleus fuses to make the pronuclei--which aggregates to form the primordial zygote. The zygote will eventually form into the blastocyst and formation of the inner and outer cell mass: the 1) Embryoblast and the 2) trophoblast. The trophoblast will then subcategorize into the cytotrophoblast and the sycncytiotrophoblast. Which is responsible for the formation of the primordial germ cells as well as the formation of the embryonic mass and the amniotic mass and amniotic fluid--whith the placental mass.

Fertilization occurs normally in the ampullae of the uterine region (fallopian tube) and imperative to the manifestation of proper pregnancy is the attachment of the embryonic mass to the Endometrium and endometrial epithelial layer. This depends mainly on the amounts of estrogen levels of the female body; as well as the presence of the LH-FSH hormones.

There is a false notion that eating nuts, berries etc increases pregnancies; this is a false assumption.

Either you eat berries or nuts etc or not, pregnancy will manifest or not; as it depends mainly on the female's estrogen levels to allow endometrial attachment. The embryo, upon attachment of the mother's endometrium will absorb decidual cell mass (composed of glycoproteins, peptidogylcans, lipids etc) which provide the embryonic mass with nourishment. Either you eat nuts or not does not matter; as the lipids, glycoproteins is a molecular composition that comes from any food intake: can be meat, bread, fish etc.


Pregnancy and the eventual gestational period is a biochemical-embryological event that does not mainly depend on nutrition; but key to its manifestation is the necessary attachment of embryonic mass to the endometrium.

Key to this is appropriate levels of estrogen in the body. And an immune system that does not attack the embryo; some females have an autoimmune degeneracy that actually attacks the embryo upon implantation on the endometrium; thereby triggering an abortive phase. Where the mother's immune system actually kills the embryo and swallows it; thereby being pinocytized and phagocytized by lysosomal cells : macrophages etc.

Fish contains lots of Omega 3 fats which is very important especialy the first trimester, the time where the brains of the foetus grows fast. Missing this nutrient causes hyperactivity. This was the result of a research in Cambridge University (England).
Macky you are right for career oriented women, get an artificial insemination. A husband is hindrance!

The most important time of pregnancy is the 2nd to 3rd week as this is the time where the primordial cardiovascular system is developed; and the embryo is most viable since the mother probably doesn't know she is pregnant yet by the 2nd week.

It is important to evade in taking in any tetrogens (smoking, alcohol, drugs etc) as during this time period the syncytiotrophoblast that connects the embryo to the endometrial wall is directly fusing with the embryo and there is a direct blood flow from mother to embryo.

Thus, any alcoholic drinks, smoke, drugs (thalidomide, barbituates etc) will enter directly to the embryo as well.

And even post-1st trimester, the embryo is still susceptible to tetragens as the embryo's liver is only 4% active as compared to the mother; hence there is a direct link between the maternal liver-and embryonic placenta.

Tetrogenic intake can lead to IUGR of the fetus. IUGR = Intra uterine growth retardation.

This can lead to chromosomal abnormality, growth retardation, physical and mental degeneracy.

It really doesn't matter what kinds of food the mother eats; so long as she eats a high protein diet since most of the nutritional intake the embryo gets is from the blood of the mother that provides the nutrition for the embryo during the 1st to 3rd week phase.

After the viability of the fetus, the formation of the placental sac, the umbilical cord etc; the energy that the fetus gets is primarily glycogen, glycosaminglcans. Either you eat carrots, beef, chicken, pork, fish, rice etc; these food content will be broken down by the digestive system of the mother, which then utilizes the stereocillia to absorb and covert the foods into molecular processes in the form of glycogen, sugars where it is stored in adipose tissue (fat cells).

The embryo/fetus is fed through the umbilical cord only glycogens and protein fats. All are broken down simplified molecular processes.

Nutrition has a direct impact on the potency of your sperm. Research shows that poor eating habits and regular consumption of alcohol, for instance, can lower the quality and quantity of sperm, making conception more difficult. And since infertility is nearly as much a man's issue as a woman's — up to 40 percent of fertility problems can be traced to men — eating healthfully now will boost your chances of conceiving a child.

Conception isn't the only reason to revamp your diet. Additional research shows that dads who drink heavily — the equivalent of two alcoholic beverages a day — in the month before conception have babies who weigh on average 6.5 ounces less than other babies. Low birth weight is a serious medical condition that can affect your child's physical and mental well-being for the rest of his life.

Whether drinking coffee will harm or help your fertility is less clear. Although some research suggests caffeine hampers male fertility, one Brazilian study found coffee drinkers' sperm actually showed an improved ability to swim, which might boost fertility. The safest bet, though, is to limit your coffee to a cup or two a day.



Which nutrients are most important?
Your diet should be every bit as balanced, varied, and nutritious as your partner's. Some specific advice for future dads:

•  Eat plenty of foods rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants. These nutrients help prevent sperm defects and boost its motility (movement). An 8-ounce glass of orange juice contains about 124 milligrams of C. Aim for at least 90 mg a day — more, at least 125 mg, if you smoke.

•  Get enough zinc. Several studies show that even short-term zinc deficiencies can reduce semen volume and testosterone levels. Great sources to help you get the daily 11 mg you need include oysters (six medium oysters have a whopping 16 mg), extra-lean beef tenderloin (a 3-ounce serving has 4.8 mg), baked beans (a 1-cup serving contains 3.5 mg), and dark chicken meat (2.38 mg per 3 ounces).

•  Fuel up on folic acid. Studies suggest that men with low levels of this key B vitamin — the same one women need to reduce the baby's risk for neural tube birth defects — have lower sperm counts. You may be able to get the daily minimum of 400 micrograms from fortified breakfast cereals, leafy greens, legumes, and orange juice, but taking a folic acid or a multivitamin supplement for extra insurance can't hurt.

•  Boost your calcium and vitamin D. Consuming 1,000 mg of calcium and 400 IU (10 micrograms) of vitamin D each day may improve a man's fertility, according to research from University of Wisconsin at Madison. Good calcium sources include skim milk (an 8-ounce glass has 302 mg) and yogurt (1 cup of plain yogurt contains 415 mg of calcium).You can get vitamin D from milk (an 8-ounce glass has 98 IU) and salmon (a 3-ounce serving has 360 IU).

•  Cut out (or back on) alcohol. While an occasional drink is generally considered safe, studies show that daily wine, beer, or hard liquor consumption can reduce testosterone levels and sperm counts and raise the number of abnormal sperm in your ejaculate.
