Don’t shout at your kids in the morning and expect them to shine at school.
Don’t shout at them at night and expect them to find peace in their sleep.
Don’t ignore their questions and expect them to grow into confident adults.
Don’t dismiss their emotions and expect them to be emotionally intelligent later.
Don’t abandon them physically, emotionally, or both and expect them to know what love is.
Don’t compare them to others and expect them to value their uniqueness.
Don’t break their spirit with words and expect them to dream boldly.
I never got to experience what it truly means to be a child. It has taken years of unlearning, healing, and discipline to stand where I am today.
And to be clear I wasn’t raised by a single mother. Something just went wrong somewhere along the way, and it shaped me in ways I am still unpacking.
I poured my ink not from the wounds of my pain but from the weight of my profession, hoping that in between the lines, you could find something worth carrying.
But now it’s time. Time to put down my pen, close my laptop, set my phone aside, and fold my books.
Time to step back and unwind, maybe even chase that Master’s I’ve been postponing.
Because even storytellers need to pause, to breathe, to remember who they are without the noise.
I am going on a journey. I might be back tomorrow, or the day after… But at the same time, I’m not sure if I will be back at all.
And that’s the beauty and the tragedy of it.
It’s been a pleasure walking with you this far. GOODBYE👋
