Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen has told his party that he is "not resigning".
Mr Cowen's position as leader of Ireland's ruling Fianna Fail party has been a matter of intense speculation over the past 24 hours.
Reports that he had met with senior officials from Anglo-Irish Banks before it was nationalised sparked the crisis.
The bank collapsed and its former chairman Sean Fitzpatrick has been questioned by police about his role. - BBC
