Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Roberto R. Ramdin urged on Wednesday the international community to fulfill the commitment to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Ramdin made the remarks during the second Meeting of Ministers and High Authorities in Sustainable Development. He also requested contribution to the funds for climate change, which have been pledged for the most vulnerable regions during the Copenhagen Meeting.
Ramdin said the current development paradigm must be condemned, and that a more holistic, integrated method must be adopted in order to achieve stability, security, social prosperity, and a more sustainable use of natural resources.
These aspirations could be achieved by solving problems of social exclusion and injustice, promoting equality, and taking into account the vulnerability of the economies, especially the smallest ones in Central America and the Caribbean, rather than short-term economic profits, he added.
