U.S. Embassy to Launch Workshops for PH English Teachers

Manila, February 16, 2018 — On Tuesday, February 20 the Regional English Language Office at the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines will launch a series of professional development workshops for over 400 English teachers to support English language teaching at schools and institutions of higher learning in Bataan and Metro Manila.  The workshops will take place over a three-week period.

Dr. Donna M. Brinton, a distinguished American expert and author of textbooks on Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language (TESOL), will conduct the workshops for public school teachers, university faculty, and students preparing for teaching careers.

Dr. Brinton will be visiting the Philippines for the first time as a participant in the U.S. Department of State’s English Language (EL) Specialist Program.  The EL Specialist Program is just one of several Embassy programs that promote the professional development of English teachers through face-to-face instruction and distance-learning programs taught by American experts in the field of TESOL.

We invite media to cover the opening event on Tuesday, February 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Giardino Room of the Bayview Park Hotel in Manila.
