Over the past few months, Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Philippines, has been implementing the Higher Education and Productivity Project (HEPP). A project that aims to solve the skills gap and mismatch problem through the creation of industry-academe linkages at the national and regional levels. PBEd’s   current   national   policy   efforts   have   been   to   push   for   increased   industry   involvement   in   the areas of curriculum design, faculty development, and quality assurance. The recent passing of the K-12   Law,   the   upcoming   ASEAN   Integration   in   2015,   and   the  Commission   on   Higher   Education’s (CHED) move towards an outcomes-based education have only made these initiatives all the more important and urgent. To capitalize on this opportunity, we have been organizing industry groups in the sectors of management, IT, tourism, semi-conductors, and manufacturing to a do parallel review of the CHED’s suggested curriculum, or what they call Policies, Standards and Guidelines (PSGs) for BS Management, Information Technology (IT), Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM), and Electronics Engineering. The ultimate goal of this effort is for industry to define relevant competencies which will be presented to the CHED. Realizing   that   the   government’s   support   and   commitment to this project was important, we have sought to formalize an agreement with the CHED. This agreement ensures the CHED’s recognition and support of the proposed parallel review process of the PSGs.
