A top police official in Central Visayas described the opening of the classes Monday throughout the region as “generally peaceful.â€
About 90 percent of 7,000 police officers in Region 7 was deployed in various schools, terminals and streets to ensure peace and order on the first day of classes after Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ager Ontog Jr. declared a full alert level to ensure tight security in the schools.
Ontog and CCPO chief Ramon Melvin Buenafe inspected three public schools in Cebu City Monday and observed that the opening of classes went smoothly.
Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Director Patrocinio Comendador said they will also increase police visibility in night high schools.
â€They are very prone to criminal elements and gangs,†he said.
Comendador said policemen will continue to be deployed to the schools for the remainder of the week.
He told reporters that 100 percent of police officers in CPPO was deployed to the schools, particularly those in major cities in the province.
CCPO City Intelligence Branch Chief Romeo Santander also announced that a new mobile patrol group will roam the city’s streets to prevent crimes.
On board motorcycles, 44 personnel form the Special Weapons and Tactics group will be visible in the streets for 24-hours.
Santander also said they will strictly enforce traffic rules, after observing heavy traffic in some parts of the city Monday.
