NEW LAWYERS TO GUARD AND DEFEND THE PRINCIPLES ENSHRINED IN THE CONSTITUTION

Adherence to the rule of law and the principles of freedom, justice and democracy is the timeless mission of lawyers. To fight for the oppressed, to empower the powerless, and to be a voice for the voiceless, are your personal mission.

This is the essence of what I impart to you as a lawyer, a professor, and as a Member of the House Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Our country has had several constitutions, which were all anchored upon these principles of freedom, justice and democracy, which you learned and were inculcated to you in law school.

These principles will endure. I trust that you, as the new generation of lawyers, will be our Constitution’s, as well as our legal principles’, guardians and defenders.

The Filipino people and the bar will entrust to you this mission.

I am confident that you are ready and will proudly take on this mission.

Make the Filipinos and the bar proud of you! (END)
