CHED'S FACULTY SCHOLARS TO START RECEIVING ALLOWANCES ON DEC 29
I thank the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for its action on my previous appeal on behalf of college faculty whose K to 12 Transition program allowances have been delayed.
According to CHED Chairperson Patricia Licuanan, some 2,152 faculty members will receive their full allowances on December 29, while 1,011 will get their partial release on January 5, but 933 are pending with the CHED regional offices.
CHED has admitted it was swamped by the over 11,000 sets of documents from 9,500 faculty scholars of their historic K to 12 Transition program.
To express our sincerity, I am open to cooperating with the CHED Commission en banc on their proposals to address their internal weaknesses with external support on long term structural reforms.
I am also open to addressing their agency ailments via the 2019 budget, the budget call for which is expected to be issued by the DBM as early as January 2018.
Those 9,500 faculty scholars and the hundreds of thousands of senior high school students who will graduate in 2018 and move on to college need a CHED that is working efficiently and effectively.
CHED has to do much better than it has so far. The transition impact of senior high on our colleges and universities will be felt for about three to five years after the current school year.
Add to that the systemic effects of free college education via the SUCs. (END)
