There are seven 9's     9999999.
Make a combination  so that it is equal to 1000.

Easy: It is a fraction 999 and 99 99. The whole number is 999, the numerator
             is 99 and the denominator is 99.
   
             999 99/99 = 1000

All time favorite Calculus equation has got to be the Taylor series:
Taylor series is y(x + h) = y(x) + y'(x)h + y"(x)h2/2! + ..., helps in calculating infinite series, addressing convergence and uniform convergence.

Probably the only thing in calculus that didn't bore me.

Do you know how to multiply two digits by two digits beginning with 1 not using the standard form ?

          x   16          Multiply 5 x 6 = 30, Carry 3  + 5  + 6  = 14, carry 1  + 1 x 1 = 2

Ask your partner to think two digit numbers.  Ex. 98. Add 9+ 8 = 17.

Ask your partner to give one number of the difference. Guess the other one.
If 1 is given, subtract 9-1= 8.
 The secret is number 9 is always subtracted to get the other number.

A farmer has l7 carabaos. He will divide live proportionaly to his three children. A will have 1/2, B will have 1/3 and C will have 1/9.  How much will each children have?

Solution: Let us borrow  one carabao from your neighbor. 17 + 1 = 18
               Let us divide. 1/2 of 18 = 9 for Child A
                                  1/3 of 18 = 6 for Child B
                                  1/9 of 18 = 2 for Child C
                                        ___________
                                                  17 carabaos. Return the carabao you borrowed.
 
This can be solved by partitive proportion.

Look for a partner. Let him solve secretly and folow  your instructions.
Think of two digit number. N x 2 +5 x 50  + Age of your partner + 365 - 6l5 = Final answer.
                             
                                Ask for the final answer.
                                The first two digit is the number he  think and the  last two digit is  his
                                 age.

Try. 12 is N x 2=24 +5 = 29 x 50 = 1450 + 60 (Age) = 1510 + 365 = 1875 - 615 = 1260 is the final answer.    12 = N,    60= age.

Another way of adding and subtracting fraction not using the lcd method (least common denominator method)

      ___   + ____ =      Get the cross products and add  over the product of the demoninators.
       3           5
                             3 x 3 + 2 x 5 =    19
                                                   ____
                                           3 x 5=  15
         
                                                   
                                                     19/15    =  1  4/15
 
For subraction. use the same procedure
           
                   2      3
                 ___ - __=    2 x 5 - 3 x 3 =   10 - 9=  1/15
                   3       5               3 x 5 =

Follow the following:

Ask your friend to think of a number.
Tell him to add seven.
Multiply the sum by two.
Subtract two.
Ask your friend to tell you the answer and you will give him the number he thought of.

THe secret is  divide the answer given by your friend by two and subtract six.

Lets try: Think of the number 7.   7  + 7= 14 x 2 = 28 - 2 = 26 is the last answer

       26 divided by 2 = l3 - 6 = 7, the number he thought of.

Make an equation using these numbers:  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 consecutively equal to 100.
Put these signs:  +  -  x  between the numbers.

Example: 1 + 2 +3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 x 9= 100


Make three more equations.

I bow to men and women who work with mathematics and excel in its theories. Its a gift jud.

As for me, I can do math, but its not one of my favorite subjects. I'm more science oriented.

I really have a high regard for mathematicians, statisticians, theorists etc., the way their brain works is superb. Keep up the work, guys, and more power to those who love Math!

Make an equation using these numbers:  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 consecutively equal to 100.
Put these signs:  +  -  x  between the numbers.

Example: 1 + 2 +3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 x 9= 100


Make three more equations.


I just thought of one: 1x2x3x4x5-6-7-8-9=100

I got it Slack.

At the begining it is already wrong because a simple equation should consist of one variable and one constant like A=2 or X = 3, a variable should not be equal to another variable. You may say that a variable is equal to a square of another variable.

In the 2nd to the last line 2(a-x) = a-x (since a = x as the first line, so you may substitute a with x)
So the equation will become 2(a-a) = a-a
Then, 2 (0) = 0
Then, 0 = 0

Conclusion: Our universe is bounded by equations. This means that there's no fixed equation and anything may happen, may change without warning. The universe is unpredictable.

Perhaps the most interesting equation is the Chaos or Butterfly effect (finalized and published by Edward Lorenz in 1961). Initially this theory is not accepted but now, it is widely used in vast fields such as aviation, weather pattern, logistics, production/demand..etc.:

The butterfly effect is a phrase which encapsulates the more technical notion of sensitive dependence on initial conditions in chaos theory. Small variations of the initial condition of a nonlinear dynamical system may produce large variations in the long term behavior of the system. So this is sometimes presented as esoteric behavior, but can be exhibited by very simple systems: for example, a ball placed at the crest of a hill might roll into any of several valleys depending on slight differences in initial position.

The phrase refers to the idea that a butterfly's wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that ultimately cause a tornado to appear (or prevent a tornado from appearing). The flapping wing represents a small change in the initial condition of the system, which causes a chain of events leading to large-scale phenomena. Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the system might have been vastly different.

Recurrence, the approximate return of a system towards its initial conditions, together with sensitive dependence on initial conditions are the two main ingredients for chaotic motion. They have the practical consequence of making complex systems, such as the weather, difficult to predict past a certain time range (approximately a week in the case of weather).

Sensitive dependence on initial conditions was first described in the literature by Jacques Hadamard in 1890[1] and popularized by Pierre Duhem's 1906 book. The idea that one butterfly could have a far-reaching ripple effect on subsequent events seems first to have appeared in a 1952 short story by Ray Bradbury about time travel (see Popular Media below), although the term "butterfly effect" itself is related to the work of Edward Lorenz. In 1961, Lorenz was using a numerical computer model to rerun a weather prediction, when, as a shortcut on a number in the sequence, he entered the decimal .506 instead of entering the full .506127 the computer would hold. The result was a completely different weather scenario.[2] Lorenz published his findings in a 1963 paper for the New York Academy of Sciences noted that "One meteorologist remarked that if the theory were correct, one flap of a seagull's wings could change the course of weather forever." Later speeches and papers by Lorenz used the more poetic butterfly. According to Lorenz, upon failing to provide a title for a talk he was to present at the 139th meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1972, Philip Merilees concocted Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas as a title.

You may not like the first step (a=x). But, we do this kind of thing all the time in Algebra. It's true for plenty of a's and x's. Assume that a is the number of ears on my head, and x  is the number of ears on your head. In that case a=x (if a is not equal to x, forgive me for mentioning it).

Here's the trick. Since the above mathematical model is an equation, we have to follow the rule on how to evaluate simple equations. If you add any thing to the left side,  the same thing shall be added to the right side of the equation. Let us see how you can prove this. I need your help.

Bright jud ning mga taga guindulman ug math da.. na koy amigo (dili man to enhinyero, so dili to ikaw) taga guindulman, bright pud math.. mata-matahun ra namu ng physics, analytic geometry ug calculus.. ang algebra pirting sayuna.. magpijong na mi hapit.. (manghambug na lang ko kay dili ra ba ko apil sa pmo) pag college nako, ako malouy sa amung mga classmates nga taga ubang probinsya.. sila bilib jamu naho kay matamatahun lagi jud ang college algebra.. lol

101011011 can be divided by 3, why? because the sum of the digits is 6 divisible by 3.

Rule says,  a number is divisible by 3 if the sum of the digits is divisible by 3.
                  A number with so many digits if the sum of the digits is divisible by 3 , the
                  number itself is divisible by 3.

Bitaw friend, sa akoa kinahanglang gyod ug devotion ang math aron makat unan ang tanang pamaagi unsaon pag solvar sa problema. Ika nga there are many ways to kill a cat. Didto na ko ka realize nga much behind ang Pinas sa math compared to other countries when I took up my graduate and post graduate studies abroad. Makamao ang mga Pinoy pero mas mabagal kay sa iba.

108-x=number of chickens

To count the total number of feet, we arrive at an equation
4x+2(108-x)=300

Solving for x, we obtain x=42 pigs and therefore
108-x=66 chickens

Check for number of feet
         66x2=132 Chicken feet (daghang adidas?)
    +   42x4=168 Pig feet (daghang pata?)

  Total feet=300

Do we have to use square root? Please show to us.

Layman, you are excellent in Math.
I will share my solution.

1)   x  + Y = 108         ( multiply this by 4)
     4x + 2y= 300

     subtract
2) 4x  + 4y = 432
     4x + 2y = 300
_______________
     0      2y = 132
       
               y = 132 divided 2

                y= 66

               x  + y = 108

               x + 66 = 108

                y = 108-66

                y= 42

     42 pigs and 66 chickens

Mao nay giingon bai nga 'there are many ways to kill a cat'. Mathematical problems offer infinite number of solutions within a multi-dimensional space. Meaning to say that there is a general solution to a problem. From the general solution, there is always the best particular solution available that will suit a particular need.

In example, the equation of a circle x2+y2=R2 is a general solution of the homgeneous differential equation yy'+x=0. From the general equation of the circle you can construct as many circles you can by assigning any arbitrary and real value of R . The real values of R could be infinite. However, if you need only to draw a circle with raduis R=2 for example, then you are particularizing a solution equivalent to x2+y2=4.

Ty for threading this topic. I was not able to  finish my specialization in Math because
when got a failing grade in calculus, I stopped  taking any Math. subjects.

Balikan to natong akong gihatag nga mental exercise, nga way pa ma solve. Ako na lang ihatag ang solution niini.

Prove that 370=1320.

This can be proven only by using sound. Visayan sound can only solve this problem by just reading the numbers.

370 can be read as three seventy in regular english diction. For the Visayans they commonly read this numbers as 'tre se bente'.

1320 can be read in spanish as 'trece beinte' which sounds like 'tre se bente' as illustrated above.

Have I proven this right? Try giving this exercise to your friends and find out how they will react.

A marathon race started at a normal pace within 30 minutes, but started to slow down afterwards. At 200 meters towards the finish line, every runner tried to grab positions to claim the prizes at stake. Let us just say that I was one of them.

Questions:

1. What was my last position in the race if I overtake the third runner in the line?
2. What was my last position in the race if I overtake the second runner in the line?
3. What was my last position in the race if I overtake the first runner in the line?
4. What was my last position in the race if I overtake the last runner in the line?
5. Could I be the champion of the marathon?

ax2 + bx = c is a quadratic equation which can be transformed to the standard form: ax2 + bx - c = o

x can be solved using the quadratic formula but I don't know how to encode an equation here... :D

That's the derivation of quadratic formula. Kalimot na man pud ko ana mga butanga kay wa na pud kaau nako magamit. I used to teach elementary and intermediate algebra sa pilipinas and linear and quadratic equations were some of the lessons I taught.

Asa ka dre sa Thailand nag masteral before sir? I am presently doing my master's in education here.

I know Asian Institute of Technology in Pattanakan Disctrict in Bangkok. I don't know if there's another AIT in Pattaya.

GOOD! I heard lots of Filipinos are teaching in that school. It's a nice school with a very big and nice campus in the outskirt area of Bangkok.

You are exactly right. There is only one AIT campus in Thailand. Before, only qualified scholars from different Asian countries were admitted to enroll in different Masteral and Doctoral Courses in Engineering. Diploma Courses were not offered before. I don't know their set up now. I was informed then that Dr. Mario Tabucanon from Leyte is the present Provost after finishing his term as the President of that school. We were there together in that school when he was still working with his dissertation for his Doctoral Degree. Are you working and residing there now with your family? Suwaidi kap!

I am single. I have been here in Thailand for 2 years lang. I went here months after my graduation in the Philippines. I don't know much about AIT. I just happened to pass by their campus when I was lost in Bangkok. :D :D :D

I might meet those people sir kung mo bisita ko sa AIT pohon. I might be there for my thesis. Saludo gyud ko kaau nimo sir! Until now, kabalo pa ka sa derivation sa quadratic formula. GOOD!

Perfectly done! Given a, b, c and n real, would you believe that the roots of any equation of nth exponential order can be solved using Newton-Raphson method theory of convergence? Try using this general formula shown in (1), in solving the root of the equation
