HNU Queen Wins in Bohol Tri Media Awarding Ceremony

Holy Name University beauty queen Ms. Janice Parilla won the title as Miss Press Photography of the Bohol Tri-Media Association (BTMA) induction of officers and Media Excellence Awards rites held at the Island City Mall Activity Center last Sunday, Jan. 13.

Ms. Parilla, a Mass Comunication student, also grabbed the minor awards as Ms. Island Souvenirs and Ms. Olive-C.

The Bohol Tri-Media Association (BTMA) was founded in 2004 with Mr. Loreto “Loy” M. Palapos as its first President.

Various media men in the local print and broadcast media attended the said affair, renewing their oath as media practitioners, and recognizing those members who had excelled in their chosen line of expertise.

Highlighting the affair was a pageant entitled ‘Miss Bohol Tri-Media Association Press Photography’ wherein a

Runners-ups were Annie Wachsmuth who also won the Ms. New Placenta minor award, Gabrielle Marie Dayan, Rolaine Arellano, and Irish Kay Obregon.

His Eminence, Msgr. Leonardo Y. Medroso, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, who was the guest of honor in the affair, gave his short speech about the Church’s view with regards to the media. He said that the Church sometimes shares a different view with the media but [the Church] is trying to reconcile on issues that plagues the nation as a whole. He also stressed the roles of both parties in community building.

Bishop Medroso is also a media practitioner having managed a radio station in Borongan, Samar where he was last assigned.

Following the pageant was the Media Excellence Awarding ceremony. Broadcast and print journalists who have displayed outstanding performance for the year 2007 are: Zoilo “Bingo” Dejaresco III (The Bohol Chronicle), Best in Editorial; Kit Bagaipo (The Bohol Chronicle), Best News Writer; Sonieta Labasan (The Bohol Chronicle), Best Feature Writer; Loreto Palapos (The Bohol Chronicle, Sunday Post, The Bohol Times), Best Columnist; Liza Macalandag (The Bohol Chronicle), Best Photo Journalist; Ariel Fullido (Sunday Post, The Bohol Times), Best Editorial Cartoonist. Awardees for radio are: Carlito Responte,Tomorrow’s News Tonite (dyTR), Best Public Service Program; Loy Palapos, Sammy Cardenas and Ariel Fullido, Nangutana Lang (dyRD/dyZD), Best Public Affairs Program; Fortunato “Atoy” Cosap (dyRD/dyZD), Best Newscaster; Best Program Anchor (Alagad- dyRD/dyZD) Chito Vissara and Danny Reyes (dyRD/dyZD), Best Field Reporter.
