SNAPSHOTS | Blue Eagles Return to their Nest for the AdZU Grand Alumni Homecoming 2022

For more than two years, the yearly return of the Eagles to their roost has been barred by the pandemic. Yet, despite the hardships, the losses, and the seemingly insurmountable challenges, the blue flame of animo remained alive and well within every Atenean.
And so this year’s Grand Alumni Homecoming is unlike any other! There is a different air about it – a more hopeful energy hovers above the crowds and a more palpable sensation of joy.
Our honored Jubilarians and alumni greeted the day with a special Eucharistic celebration at the University Sacred Heart Chapel – a perfect prelude to this grand three-day event. University President Fr Karel S San Juan SJ, led the Mass and was co-presided by former University President Fr William H Kreutz, University Chaplain Fr Francisco D Parilla, and Fr Elmer Sumile.
The mass was followed by an awarding ceremony wherein plaques, medallions, and certificates were presented to the Jubilarians from various alumni batches.
Then, it was off to the streets! The Grand Alumni Homecoming Parade took off in earnest. Clad in their batch shirts, their own lively gimmicks, and their best smiles, our celebrants displayed to all how infectious the energy of the Ateneo is!
And finally, everyone assembled at the AdZU Back Field to begin the day’s highlight. A message from the University President, Fr Karel S San Juan, SJ greeted our alumni and roused their spirits for the night’s festivities. Despite the unexpected rain, it was a bonanza of youthful performances, 80’s and 90’s nostalgia, and jolly feasting together with friends, teachers, and classmates – truly a loud and extravagant grand celebration unique to the Ateneo.
This is a night where our alumni and our Jubilarians are on the spotlight. We honor them and express our undying gratitude for keeping their faith and loyalty to our alma mater throughout the years.
The AdZU Community is delighted to have you back Blue Eagles! We hope to see you again on the next grand homecoming event.
