A 94-year old man was killed in a fire that razed two houses in barangay San Antonio, Duero town Friday night.
The lone casualty was identified as Julian Bersamina who was trapped in the blaze
which police believed to have started in the victim’s own bedroom at around 11 p.m.
According to PO1 Ingrid Ignacio of the Duero Police Station, the fire was caused by
an unattended candle that was lit by Bersamina following a power outage that night.
The blaze spread rapidly and gutted down the two houses and partly damaged a third
building that belonged to Fe Tan, a sister of Duero Mayor Manuel Tan.
The other house that was razed to the ground belonged to one Julius Cagasan..
PO1 Ignacio said the fire alarm came shortly after 11 p.m. prompting the police to
call for assistance from the fire stations of Jagna , Valencia , Ubay and Tagbilaran
City .
He said the blaze lasted for about an hour with an estimated damage cost of P2 million.
