definition of what rhymes with ethos:

pathos

    a quality that evokes pity or sadness.

    synonyms:   poignancy, tragedy, sadness, pitifulness, piteousness, pitiableness, plaintiveness, sorrowfulness

as for athos and porthos, well, as everyone knows, they're two of the three musketeers.  the name of the third, aramis, has been brought down a notch by having a perfume named after him.  leave it to the french...
