Bohol Gov. Edgar M. Chatto, Vice-Gov. Concepcion O. Lim and members of the Provincial Development Council (PDC) all came to a consensus to personally visit the proposed site of the Bohol Northeast Basin Multi-Purpose Dam in Danao.

This came about during the PDC’s Execom Meeting Friday to make sure that said project is indeed viable; and to erase doubts on the proposed dam’s viability to irrigate a vast area of land in the province.

The project, which National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Provincial Director Engr. Modesto Membreve presented to the PDC body talked about an Irrigation and Hydro Power Project which aims to provide services to the farmers of Danao, San Miguel, Trinidad, Dagohoy, Bien Unido and Ubay.

It is said to irrigate about 19,017 hectares with the Wahig River as its source and is said to be capable of storing 78.5 MCM backed up with a 52.5 sq. km. watershed.

It is further envisioned that 10 megawatts of hydroelectric power could also be developed in this same project.

Project proponents contend that it could provide substantial and dependable water supply for irrigation services to support the agricultural development program of the government.

They also emphasized that it can also make available a dependable irrigation water supply in the Northeastern part of Bohol and could generate cheaper and renewable source of energy to augment the local electric power needs of the province.

Meanwile First District Representative Cong. Rene L. Relampagos brought to the PDC’s attention some national roads in Albur which are already tagged by residents as accident-prone due to the increasing number of re-occurring mishaps in said places.

Cong. Relampagos, through the PDC, made a formal request to Engr. Teodoro Castillo to immediately look into the matter to prevent more accidents in the future.
