Lady doctor who recovered from
COVID but reinfected dies
The nation has lost another brave medical frontliner in the battle against COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Kathlynne Anne "Karen" C. Abat-Senen, a neonatologist and infectious disease expert at the Philippine General Hospital, passed away yesterday morning, Sunday, August 23.
Senen first tested negative for COVID-19 in June and was discharged on July 1 after testing negative.
But two days later, she started experiencing symptoms again and was rushed back to the hospital on July 10.
She again against tested positive.
Senen was just one of the COVID-19 patients who got reinfected after recovering.
Studies have shown that getting reinfected may be more dangerous.
Her oxygen level in the blood had alarmingly dropped.
Due to her critical condition, Senen had been placed under intensive care unit (ICU) until her death.
Her husband, Jerome, is also a doctor.
Senen was the 40th medical frontliner in the Philippines to die of COVID-19.
Then still at ICU on July 22, the lady doctor celebrated her 43rd birthday.
