Corellahanon are still proud of him.

We, the Corellahanon are proud of AJ Banal's  victory, Congrats, we are proud of you............, bisag tua na ka karon sa Cebu magpuyo.

CEBU boxing patron Antonio Aldeguer praised the successful performance of AJ “Bazooka” Banal in last Sunday’s “Island Assault” boxing event in Hawaii but also pointed out that there were several flaws the Cebuano boxer needs to work on.

In Banal’s (20-1-1, 6KOs) unanimous decision over Mexican Jose Angel Beranza (32-16-2, 25KOs), Aldeguer observed that there were times in the match when he was too cautious.

Aldeguer said there were rounds, especially in the later parts when Banal could have knocked out Banal but the Ermita, Cebu boxer failed to capitalize on them.

“He was pacing himself too much. There were rounds when he could have sent the Mexican down but he was too cautious. He did not attack as much as he should have,” said Aldeguer.

“I’ll give credit to the Mexican, he’s tough. If it were another boxer, he could have been knocked down,” he added.

Aldeguer said he was still happy with the outcome of the fight especially since he saw that Banal has learned to be more patient unlike in the past when he used up all his energy in the early rounds in the hopes of an early knock down.

“We are contented with the result because AJ learned to be patient. He’s more in the learning stage right now,” Aldeguer added.

Banal’s patience has always been one of the boxer’s weak points, which his trainors at the ALA Stable had been working on. His impatience caused his inability to sustain his energy in his fight against Panamanian Rafael Concepcion in their WBA interim super flyweight title bout last year at the Cebu Coliseum.

In that match, Banal did not have enough patience to pace himself; he gave out his strength in the early rounds until he ran out of power that led to his 10th round TKO loss.

Aldeguer also added that they plan to schedule Banal for another fight this November here in Cebu before he embarks on a bigger campaign in the US. ESL of Sun.Star SuperBalita
