Oh, I see. I thought a graduate of Mater Dei College topped the exam. So MDC topped in what population/enrolment category? Nursing schools in the country are classified according to this. So, I am certain that there are other schools who topped in their respective categories.

29 out of 36 members of the pioneer batch passed, considered highest in their category (with less than 50 from a school). a good record for mater dei.

MDC is a very small school. It is formed by a corporation whose members are Boholano retired school administrators and university deans (usually gikan sa Cebu, like Univ. of San Jose Recoletos and Univ. of San Carlos). It, however, has a relatively large sylvan campus, conducive sa pagtuon. Very strict sila especially when it comes to student discipline. I was able to visit their campus many times in the past. Complete uniform gyud, especially sa boys nga morag naa sa banko nag work kon magsul-ob na sa ilang uniform.   Bisan sa ilang kagamay naa silay graduate school. Medyo barato ra ang tuition. Daghan pud og connections ang mga staff, that is why they are able to outsource funds for their student scholarship program. As far as I know, mao ra ni ilang mga courses: Education (Elem. & Secondary), BS Math, BS Criminology, BS Computer Science, BS Nursing, Master of Arts in Education, Master of Arts in Public Services Management. I was told sila ra kunoy naay mga hospital beds (for classroom practicum use) nga recommended abroad. Donated by a German foundation.  Tungod kay religious institution man, nagtamod pud sila sa mga kalihokan sa church calendar.

Impressive.

Congrats sad diay sa duha ka boholano topnotchers!

by the way, i don't like the idea nga mag-uniform ang college students. for me, and i emphasize na for me ra jud ni, mas mau ning style sa UP. you can attend classes however you want to look like. i believe this is a way of letting students think for themselves, to decide on their own, to be their own, to express their individuality and to be responsible for their own actions. very liberal, very conducive.

About MDC

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nestled at the northern part of Bohol is a modest but elegant looking college. Mater Dei College offers a harmonious blend of a peaceful rural ambience and a fast-paced technological advancement. Demographically, MDC can be considered a small college with a population of more than a thousand students, but her small size did not deter her from having big visions. In spite of limited resources, she dares to dream-dreams which have been gradually materialized with abundant blessings from Mary, the Mother of God (Mater Dei), the patroness of the institution.

What used to be an ugly duckling has now metamorphosed into a lovely swan. Indeed, MDC has gone far from what she was 25 years ago. From the original eight classrooms, the college has expanded extensively especially with the completion of her newest buildings—the Nursing and Related Arts Complex and the MDC Elementary Laboratory School. The increasing number of students, mostly from the neighboring towns necessitated an expansion project. The Information Technology Systems Complex was completed three years ago followed with the construction of the HRM Laboratory.

Although the college has kept abreast with advancement in technology, she has managed to preserve her lush green surroundings. Behind the college’s unassuming facade a magnificent school campus meets the eye. Tall trees and flowering plants invite birds to build their nests. The quiet atmosphere which is really conducive to learning attracted balikbayan parents to send their fun-loving children to this college. MDC’s plain frontage is a complete contrast to the splendid college grounds behind the original front building. Equipped with state-of-the-art sports facilities such as a lawn & table tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, the school provides both students and teachers opportunities to have a relaxing exercise.

Aside from her material resources, MDC can truly boast of her human resource powerhouse. Her faculty and staff are known to possess a perfect timbre of sternness and congeniality. MDC’s competent administrators assured the community that the college is manned towards the right direction. With her highly-competent members of the Board of Trustees, most of whom are priests and lay educators, the college is definitely in good hands.

MATER DEI COLLEGE TURNS SILVER
Last February 2008, Mater Dei College has turned 25 years old. The grand celebration reminded everyone of the profound story of sacrifice, fortitude, and unconditional dedication the original foudners have manifested two and a half decades ago. The official Silver Anniversary was celebrated on February 13 - 16, 2008.

The first day opened with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. A grand floral parade with street dancing followed the Mass. There were exhibits in campus featuring what Mater Dei College has been through the years and what Mater Dei College is now. In the evening was the salvo of fireworks, field demonstrations and coronation for MDC King and Queen and Prince and Princess packaged in a beautiful drama.

In the morning of the second day were some nourishments for the mind. A symposium for teachers and another one for students were simultaneously conducted. In the afternoon, it was devoted to literary, and musical arts in a contest. While ballroom dancing has its share in the evening in a contest, too.

The third day was Community Day. The mass wedding, the Baptism, and the Confirmation events were in the morning to give the community a part in the grand celebration. The feeding program in cooperation with DSWD for the children of the three neighboring barangays: Cabulijan, Tinangnan, and Macaas were facilitated in the afternoon.

The fourth day was for the Alumni of MDC. A list of activities was also lined up for them.

Looking back, we could recall how MDC has gradually taken shape throughout the years. After then years from the time the original M-shaped building had been constructed, she put up Mary's mini hotel as a practicum venue for the HRM trainees and also as the second home of visiting professors. More and more of them come each weekend as part time teachers. Then in 2000, the huge Activity Center was born through the initiative of Bishop Felix Zafra. In 2002, the Information Technology Systems Complex was constructed.

The physcal plant has kept up technological modernity with the expansion of the computer Labs and the installation of the Satellite dish for the internet. Then the 4-storey Nursing and Related Arts Complex followed suit. A state of the art Nursing Skills Lab was installed in the building along with the airconditioning of the classrooms. To refine the teaching skills of the College of Education practicumers, the pre-elementary and Elementary department was opened after the construction of the new Elementary building for them.

The latest acquisition the school has, is the installation of a modern Speech Laboratory complete with monitors and videocams to enhance the English program of the school. Its Reading Program is considered its strength. A special enriched English curriculum was designed and is now on its first year of schoolwide implementation.

MDC's achievements in the academic field are crowned by several board passers in the different courses she has produced and the many graduates she turned over to the country. The year 1996 got the peak of her glory when MDC topped in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) in the person of Mrs. Christine Villordon Cubillo.

The school's commitment to serve the community as articulated in her VMG is heightened through her scholarship program for the economically disadvantaged but deserving students. At the moment, there are around 50 students enjoying tuition waiver from various categories of scholarhips. Also, the school has sponsored livelihood programs such as organic farming, water irrigation, and goat raising in the neighboring barangays.

Indeed, MDC has gone a long way from what she has been. With her numerous achievements she has gained throughout her existence, she can be likened to a vintage wine which becomes tastier the older it becomes. Truly, Mater Dei College, from her modest beginnings, has been vibrantly growing as she keeps herself open to all forms of service to the least of her brethren in this part of Bohol.
