Borja Family Hospital: "a small hospital with a big heart", celebrated its
30th Foundation Day last Friday.
Within a period of three decades, this institution has been gradually making its expansion and developments in order to render service to the growing healthcare needs, not just for the Boholanos, but for all the people who needs utmost care and health services.
The gradual growth of the small institution was the result of the unfaltering efforts and passion of its procreators. Dr. Melinda Borja, native of Cebu City, an alumnus of St. Theresa's College and a graduate of the University of Sto. Tomas Batch 1964. She had her obstetric-gynecology training in Chung Hua Hospital & Cebu Maternity Hospital in Cebu City She then later became a Fellow in the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP). Dr. Jose Borja, true blooded Boholano from Loay, had his early schooling in Rafael Palma College and gained his medical degree in Southwestern University. He then became the Hospital Administrator of Borja Family Clinic whilst Dr. Melinda Borja took the role of the Medical Director. Both of them became the founders of Borja Family Hospital. They are blessed with three children who took passion different passions in the field of medicine. The eldest son, Jose Luis Borja is a medical technician in the US. The second son, Jose Gerard Borja is a registered nurse in the US. The youngest of the siblings, Ma. Melinda Borja-Chiong is a known OB/GYNE doctor in Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City.
From its humble beginnings way back August 1980, Borja Family Clinic, which was its founding name, started as a small primary hospice with a 23 authorized bed capacity with 19 employed personnel. In the present date, it is now a 40 authorized bed capacity secondary hospice of care. The hospital has also played host to a number medical-surgical missions since the year 2007 with the active participation of the Illinois-based physicians who were batch mates of the current medical director in UST year 1964. Not to mention, that this is the only private hospital organization who supports medical-surgical mission.
As part and parcel of the hospital's growth, it has established additional private and deluxe rooms that are analogous to hotels to provide comfort and solace to the patients during the times of need and sickness of the clients. The hospital also has a newly installed elevator to allow faster transit to every hospital floor. The hospital will also be launching its upgraded 3-bed intensive care unit equipped with a new patient centralized monitoring system intended for clients under critical care and continuous monitoring. Another anticipated project in lieu of the hospital's expansion is the hospital's car park situated in the lower ground floor the hospital and the Children's Playground on the fourth floor of the hospital complex.

An anticipated mass will be heard in line with the celebration followed with the Holy Blessing of the hospital premises will follow right after the Holy Eucharist. The pinnacle of the celebration will be a cocktail party which will be attended by some invited guests, constituent physicians, valued patients and hospital employees as well.
