Boholana joins Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP)

A Boholana, member of the prominent Tirol clan in the province, is among the 28 youth leaders who are set to sail in the 34th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP), an annual diplomatic exchange program among and between the emerging youth leaders in Asia sponsored by the Cabinet Office of Japan.

Janice Aurora “Nice” Briones Tirol, daughter of Engr. Jes Belarmino Tirol, Director for Research and Development and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Bohol and the late Aurora Briones, is a faculty of the University of Bohol - College of Education since November 2001.

She is part of this year’s PAGSIKAT Philippine delegation that will spend six weeks on board the Japanese luxury ship “Nippon Maru” this year. The delegates will be involved in activities such as institutional visits and home stays in participating countries, discussion groups, cultural presentations, and other goodwill exchanges geared towards broadening international perspective.

“Nice” finished Bachelor in Secondary Education - Major in Social Studies in March 2001, passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) in the same year (2001), proceeded with Master of Arts - Major in Educational Administration and graduated in May 2003. She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in March 2006. Having earned her Diploma in Special Education in June 2007 and having completed her academic requirements, she is currently doing a project study for the degree in Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education.

Chosen by the Office of the President of the Philippines through the National Youth Commission and declared as Philippine Participating Youths (PPY) are Ralph Irish S. Aguda and Ma. Elena R. Abundo (Region I), Ritchie A. Rivera (Region II), Alden Roi D. Copuyoc and Myra M. Gabito (Region III), Phillip Norbert Ahmad L. Medina and Joanne Kristine M. Mamaril (Region IV), Eddie R. Balunso and Indira B. Tabo (Region V), Jason B. Mande and Jeneda C. Salcedo (Region VI), Michael Nicholas D. Malazarte and Janice Aurora B. Tirol (Region VII), Eugene C. Sosing and Anna Celeste M. Agabe (Region VIII), Marvin F. Delfin and Giselle Iris M. Alano (Region IX), Hector G. Quilang and Angelie S. Azcuna (Region X), Jonald T. Boyoc and Precious Ann Legario (Region XI), Jaypee B. Carmen and Jocelyn B. Lambac (Region XII), Aiza Mae J. Kanda (Region XIII), Ronald C. Lopez (CAR), Bai Erisha C. Sinsuat (ARMM) and Albert John M. Mallari and Astarte D. Abraham (NCR).

Composed of a select group of young professionals, educators, community workers, students, artists, writers, designers and musicians, they were selected from among the thousands of applicants from across the country and underwent a rigorous 10-day pre-departure training in Pililla, Rizal last July. The PAGSIKAT Group will join its counterparts from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam in Japan on October 22 for the inauguration ceremony and the Japan-ASEAN Youth Summit.
