Four young Boholanos are among the top graduates of the University of the Philippines in Diliman this year.
Three of the graduates received the second highest academic honors of magna cum laude at the 97th General Commencement Exercises of UP Diliman last April 27 at the University Amphitheater.
Mae Emmeline Palgan finished BA Philosophy, magna cum laude. During her senior year, she was elected to the UP Diliman University Student Council (2007-2008) and was chairperson of the College of Social Science and Philosophy Student Council.
Palgan, who is from Sikatuna, studied high school at the Holy Spirit School.
Also finishing magna cum laude is Precious Joy Tirol Dumagan, a daughter of former Batuan Mayor Necitas Dumagan and Librada Tirol Dumagan.
Dumagan finished BA Speech Communication in just three and a half years. She is a member of UP Delta Pi Omicron Sorority and an inductee of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
Even as she was studying at UP, Dumagan regularly writes for the Bohol Standard as a columnist. She finished high school at the Tagbilaran City Science High School.
Richard Lew Alombro Jumao-as graduated cum laude in BS Business Administration. He hails from Calape, Bohol and is presently working at Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Knowledge Services Pte. Ld.
The 20-year old Jumao-as finished his secondary studies at the Tagbilaran City Science High School.
BA Political Science graduate Nelson Cainghog also finished magna cum laude. He is currently pursuing a masters degree in political science.
Cainghog, 21, graduated high school in his hometown at CVSCAFT Main Campus.
The magna cum laude is awarded to graduates with with minimum general weighted average of 1.45 while a cum laude has to attain a minimum GWA of 1.75. -
