Catigbian is painting the town green, literally and figuratively! This augurs well for Catigbian Agro-Tourism and Technology for Livestock Enhancement or CATTLE Project.

Positioning itself as the livestock capital of Bohol, Catigbian LGU, with Mayor Roberto L. Salinas at the helm, has been proactively implementing initiatives to further develop and protect its livestock industry. CATTLE, currently being implemented by FCB Foundation Inc., in partnership with the LGU and selected people’s organizations, is one such valuable endeavor aimed at capacitating community-based groups to engage in eco-friendly and profitable livestock breeding and fattening business.

The formal ratification of the implementation and partnership arrangements for the CATTLE project was done through a MOA signing ceremony on September 4, 2007 in the Catigbian Conference Hall. This was being witnessed by the LGU officials and representatives from the FCB Foundation, as well as, FOCAS 1 and FOCAS 4 stakeholders. The MOA outlines specific commitments and responsibilities of the contracting parties.

Following the MOA signing is an orientation on the different FOCAS 1 and FOCAS 4 projects being implemented in Catigbian. This gave implementers opportunity to enlighten the LGU officials on certain aspects of the projects and update them of their progress.

Targeting a total of 760 beneficiary-households in 11 barangays for 5 years, the initial 2 years of CATTLE Project will be partly funded by the PhP 3.3 million grant from the Australian Agency for International Development-Philippines Australia Community Assistance Program (AusAID-PACAP) under the Focused Community Assistance Scheme 1 (FOCAS 1). Catigbian is just 1 of the 6 municipalities covered by FOCAS 1, the goal of which is poverty reduction through the development of sustainable agribusiness and enterprise in support of ecotourism in northwestern Bohol.

Bohol implements 4 FOCASes: FOCAS 1 (Agribusiness and Enterprise Development); FOCAS 2 (Eco-Cultural Tourism); FOCAS 3 (Sustainable Agriculture); and FOCAS 4 (Water and Sanitation). Overall, AusAID-PACAP funds 20 FOCAS projects in Bohol with a total grant portfolio of about PhP 74 million pesos. (Sol Virtudazo/FTCP).
