A massive recall by Toyota Motor Corp. in the United States is likely to help Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate, Kia Motors Corp., increase their sales in the American market, an analyst said Monday.
Last week, Toyota said it will recall 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S. due to potential problems with acceleration, marking its second massive recall in four months and raising further questions about the safety of its vehicles.
"The report of Toyota's second massive recall would pose a positive effect for Hyundai and Kia to regain market shares in the U.S. market," said Suh Sung-moon, an auto analyst at Korea Investment & Securities Co.
"In particular, it would be a boon for Hyundai, which is set to begin selling the YF Sonata sedan in the U.S.," the analyst said. (PNA/Yonhap)
