Ford Group Philippines (FGP) reported on Thursday an all-time full-year sales record of 6,603 Ford brand vehicles for 2010.
The company capped the record year with its second highest-ever monthly performance in December with sales rising 55 percent from November to 783 vehicles.
Following its successful launch in October, the all-new Ford Fiesta became the best-selling hatchback in the Philippines for the month of December, and led the company’s year-end surge in sales with 342 units.
The Fiesta’s exceptional December sale also represented the highest-ever monthly total for any Ford nameplate in the Philippines.
“The launch of Fiesta has really given a significant boost to our sales -– and as the best-selling hatchback in the industry in December, it’s clear that this class-leading vehicle holds significant appeal to a wide range of Filipino consumers,†said Randy Krieger, president of FGP.
The record year for Ford in the Philippines was supported by continued strength across the full lineup of Ford nameplates.
For the seventh consecutive year, the Ford Everest continued to be Ford Philippines' top performer with sales in 2010 of 2,204 units.
The Ford Escape also delivered a strong 2010 with full-year sales that rose 10 percent from a year ago to 1,556 units.
“We are absolutely delighted to have ended the year on such a high note, which helped deliver record full-year sales for the Ford brand in 2010, reaffirming that our Filipino consumers continue to appreciate our world-class lineup of Ford vehicles, and we expect this momentum to carry in to a strong 2011,†explained Krieger.
In addition to Ford’s record sales in 2010, the Ford Motor Company Philippines (FMCP) plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna reported an all-time record in vehicle exports, increasing 35 percent from a year ago to 9,858 units.
FMCP has been manufacturing the Ford Focus, Ford Escape and Mazda 3 for export to ASEAN markets that include Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia since 2002.
In December, FMCP celebrated the export of its 75,000th unit, representing a cumulative value of more than US $ 960 million.
Strong sales momentum across Ford ASEAN in December resulted in the region’s best-ever monthly sales performance with overall sales of 6,685 units –- an increase of more than 25 percent from November, the region’s previous monthly record.
Ford ASEAN’s strong sales month was filled with market highlights across the region. December sales in Thailand were up 162 percent from the same month last year. Indonesia recorded its second-best sales month ever. Ford brand sales in the Philippines were the second-best ever monthly total. Malaysia recorded its best overall sales month since December 2005.
