Whale Shark in Pamilacan, Bohol Hit By Cargo Ship
« on: January 10, 2008, 12:34:59 PM »
from Cebu Daily News

A whale shark, the largest fish in the world, was stuck in the bow of an international cargo ship before it docked at the Cebu International Port Monday. The 8-meter long whale shark appeared to have been accidentally hit by the vessel off Pamilacan Island where its population is abundant.

I'm still looking for a clear photo for this story.

Mike,

They earn more living by watching and safeguarding the whale shark than hunting them kay naa man silay commission ihatag sa WWF ug gi hatagan pod sila ug mga pump boat nga sakyan sa tourist nga gustong mag whale watching.

This lays the largest fish egg which is a feet in length and looks spiral. In that documentary they attached a camera on one of the whale sharks. Ug puede ka mo uban ug langoy ani kay dili man ni mo kaon ug tao. Ang kan-onon ani small plankton (shrimp size). Mo engulf ni siya ug tubig unya i filter niya ang plankton sa iyang gills.

Kanang Pamilacan is named after the "Pilac" which is a hand-thrown spear with a long rope used for hunting these whale sharks in the past.

Puede pod ka mag skin diving unya mo hawid ka sa likod ani nga isda kay surface ra man ni siya mag langoy.

Whale shark migration path should be determined to avoid such accidental collision from happening again. Commercial vessels must be re-routed away from the whale shark or protective sanctuaries.

There should be a clear line dividing eco-tourism and the industrialized world or zoning.

Like in Florida, the endangered Dugongs or "mermaids" as the early settlers call them, are most likely to be killed by recreational speed boats than other factors.

I have a schoolmate nga PADI instructor (scuba diving) sa Panglao. Puede ta magpauban niya. I also know the Gatals in Panglao that they have scuba diving facilities for rent. Ato lang tan-awon, they are also good friends with Jun Ayag. This summer EB pohon.

One of my friends who experienced scuba diving in Pamilacan told me that this Island is an inverted cone shape. Means big on top and tapering to a small area down, a sort of balancing island. There is also an underwater current that brings you around the base of the island without any effort of paddling. While having free ride on the current he managed to take beautiful pictures.
