US affirms partnership

THE United States of America reaffirmed its commitment to the development of Bohol when it launched here two major activities to enhance environmental governance, strengthen environment management and at the same time promote sustainable tourism.

No less than US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney represented the people of America through the United States Agency for International Development (USAid) when she personally graced the launching here of Linking Initiatives and Networking for the Control of Tuberculosis in Children (TBLINC) and Going Green, an environmental tool kit for the tourism sector.

Provincial Health Officer Rey Moses Cabagnot said the USAid choice to get to Bohol was based on Bohol’s track record in implementing health programs aside from the fact that it still rates high among the provinces with TB incidence in children.

In her keynote address at the double launch held at the Metrocenter Thursday, Ambassador Kenney who was visibly elated upon her first visit to Bohol pointed out that her coming would be marked by significant partnerships, innovations and celebrations for the future.

“This day, we see partnerships among the governments, the civil society, tourism stakeholders and the vibrant community committed to giving a better future and brighter future,” she beamed.

On the USAid assistance, she called it an innovation in partnership in getting to the problem of TB control coupled with Bohol’s commitment to protect the environment.

Moreover, she cited Bohol initiatives of giving better health as a key move to protect the children whom she considers as Bohol’s greatest resource for the future.

In his address, Governor Erico Aumentado told the ambassador that all the Bohol initiatives were geared towards poverty alleviation, which he sees as the root to all social ills.

He said the new partnership with the US government would without doubt propel Bohol to its vision of development through eco-cultural tourism.

According to Work Wildlife Fund Project Officer Yeb Saño, “Going Green aims to inform and encourage owners and operators of coastal businesses in the tourism sector to become more environmentally responsible”.

“This is important because keeping the environment pristine means more tourists to enjoy the natural beauty, and this makes financial sense,” he said in a press statement furnished to the media.

Amb. Kenney also turned over the Going Green Toolkit, an environmental tool to guide tourism sector stakeholders in taking up the environmental responsibility.

“Tourism is the fastest growing industry in the world. In Bohol, many of our tourists sites are famous for their outstanding natural beauty. Tourists come for the beautiful scenery and extraordinary experience, so it makes sense for the tourism sector to look after its lifeline- the natural environment, pressed David Valdez, the president of the WWF Philippines.

Beach resorts here in Bohol have recently committed to implement waste-water treatment facilities so as to keep the beaches clean and at the same time save on water, energy and infrastructure development.

I have a reply to this I found it very underminding as an American and in the local media to be expected to help in other area's but was not informed of my own ambassador coming to Bohol.
Oh and by the way the letter about the Peace, and human rights was written by my own district representative Congressman Brian Baired as he is also the first signer as well. I am really beginning to feel that many persons are with holding information as crab mentality reeks around here to no end.
I would of really of liked to meet my ambassador maybe I could of enlightened her on more subjects.
Some media outlets are very unfair and greedy they always text that they are needing news from everyone but when something as neat as my ambassador comes along I was not informed and neither was my editor.
Even the last Alarma meeting was not sending invitations of venue.
Knock of the crud media persons and work in unity and get along.
I am not impressed as my country is way at the top.
Maybe this project will get into corrupted hands in the future as it usually ends up doing here.
I have stated my mind and those of you who were around here and did not notice my presence around her during the event would have been nice for you guys to give me a text to let me know that she was there. I could of met her and invited her back here. I have never been mean to any of you?
How odd the local American media Priscilla is not around at this event or did the thought not occur in your little brown heads?
I fummed about this for many hours when i had heard about it a day later.
No i do not want to be friendly about anything anymore.
It gets one no where around here.

Ya, that's quite odd?!? As a Fil-Am myself I would also be insulted. I have a feeling some of your co-media people in Bohol doesn't like you because of your honesty that might have gotten into their nerves. It's a shame, really.
But please don't let this stop you... I beg you to continue what you are doing, I think you are one of a kind hardworking media person. Boholanos need someone like you.

:) Thanks for the praises and emotional support. I really appreciate it. It is so hard to even find where to pay my dues as a BTMA member now that the persons who was accepting it is now a board member in the province. When i go to chronicle to inquire I am met at the gate by the guard to be blocked from seeing the president of the organization as well.
He also refused to sign my membership card the first year i joined and I was given a card out dated by two years and signed by Loy Palapos as a our president.
One day i showwed our president this and he just had a dead look on his face as dumb- founded.
Y'Claro!!!!
