Update On Rice Crisis
« on: June 22, 2008, 04:21:39 PM »

PIA - Bohol

The queues for the much sought government-subsidized rice was not as long in the past few days, the National Food Authority (NFA) here has put up in its retail outlets the P25 per kilo rice while the P18.25 is still up in its Tindahan Natin and parish distribution outlets.

This, and the government calls to spare the government subsidized rice for the needy has by any indication, made the long queues shorter.

In a radio interview, NFA Bohol assistant Manager Ma Fe Evasco said opening up the P25 per kilo rice in the NFA accredited retail outlets is a good move especially that the prices of commercial rice has gone up.

Nevertheless, she assured Boholanos that the P18.25 NFA rice is still available at Tindahan Natin and Parish distribution outlets, for the province’s poor.

Evasco, who also makes a regular report on the daily situation of NFA rice in a Bohol radio station shared that the NFA has noted the rise in commercial rice price.

She said most commercial rice available in the markets are priced at more than P30, which has pushed the NFA to upgrade its distribution program with the opening of the P25.00 per kilo rice.

Even then, she added that the local government rice distribution agency is planning to open up more distribution outlets here to present wider options wider for Boholanos to access low priced rice.

She reasoned out that the NFA is opening up more outlets to allow the poor to get the low-priced rice over the commercial rice sold at the markets.

In her regular daily update on the NFA status, Evasco also said the rice allocation for Bohol is still coming regularly, and recently the total shipment since January has reached 210,000 bag.

The weekly arrival of shipments is set to sustain the NFA distribution, she said.

The P25 per kilo rice is soon to be supported by American imported rice, which would be sold at P20 and P35 in July, information leaked to the press also bared.

Over this, the government has sought in the double, means to raise the country’s rice sufficiency rating faster so that it could weather the rising tide of food and oil which has by far, determined the country’s economic conditions.

No No No!

It is not a Rice shortage there is plenty rice to go around it is everywhere.

Its these people in Manila who are setting such high prices at the national level.

It's really awfull a top grade of commercail rice is running at a total price of P120.00 around that area just two months ago.

Now that same bag of rice cost P200.00 for 5 kilos! (toinks!)

grabe ang jyud kayo!

Pilay is what itis now it is mahal so there fore pushes all the other rice to be more ezspensive as well.
Pilay is the rice seedling itself when planting the rice.

Mi tawag ko sa akong mama gahapon. Wala man kuno sila mag lisod sa rice. Naa among rice padies sa Bilar ug self sufficient mi sa rice.

Ang cause anang shortages sa rice is the land developers. Ang former productive rice paddies in central plain were acquired by developers and turned into housing projects.

Our government should have proper zoning plan and they should not allow housing projects on agricultural or fertile lands.

Moreover, our government is not following the proper economic equation, that is : "the more competition, the cheaper the prices".

Entrepreneurship encourages competition and improves services, apan unsa na man ning atong bugas nga nimahal na man noon. Siguro naay samahan ang rice entrepreneurs nga sindikatohon ang mga presyo. Ang maayo ani nga buhaton ang pag himo ug Rice Cooperatives para i contra anang mga sindikato nga businessmen.
