Tagbilaran City treasurer Visitacion Acero filed her retirement despite administrative and criminal complaints filed against her at the Department of Finance and at the Ombudsman, respectively.
A formal turnover is slated at mid-week to the newly designated city treasurer.
City hall sources told the Chronicle that City Assessor Linda Samonte was endorsed by the city mayor to succeed Acero. However, it was not known if Samonte will be approved by the Bureau of Local Government Finance regional offices considering that she is currently the city assessor.
The same sources said that Samonte was the personal choice of the mayor.
Acero's charges on alleged tax harassment was filed by the Bohol Chronicle Radio Corp. arising from her letter which alleged that the corporation did not pay their business taxes in the year 2003.
"This malevolent act and insidious, criminal scheme of the city treasurer is blatantly false," according to the BCRC as it produced in one of its annexes the official receipt of payment of business taxes for the year 2003 issued by respondent treasurer Acero herself.
"The treasurer is guilty of deliberately disregarding the truth, in order to wage a harassment campaign against the BCRC while citing that it was a pattern established since the time when the mayor was enraged at the media institution and eventually abandoned his radio program over dyRD.
In fact, the mayor claimed propriety on the tax harassment against BCRC as published in the banner story of a local paper "Lim warpath: Chronicle taxes."
The treasurer and the city mayor are now facing formal complaint for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act RA 3019.
